What do I do with a Podcast?

• Play your podcast for your students using a media player (iTunes, Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, etc)

• Upload your podcast to iTunes. Students can subscribe to your podcast and new content will download automatically.

• Upload your podcast to the Internet (website, wiki, blog, etc). If the site has an RSS feed, students can subscribe to your site and receive updates when new content has been posted.

iTunes U

• A free service for higher education from Apple that provides a means for managing, delivering, and accessing educational content.

• Supports the podcasting model, and automated creation of RSS feeds to allow end-users to subscribe to podcasts

• Upload your podcast to the Internet (website, wiki, blog, etc). If the site has an RSS feed, students can subscribe to your site and receive updates when new content has been posted.

iTunes University

Benefits to Students

• They were able to get “intimate” with course material, either by relistening to course lectures and supplements or by teaching the rest of the class.

• They could showcase their projects to the rest of the community, expanding the reach of the classroom to their friends or members of the community.

• They had the opportunity to review course material during pertinent moments in the semester, such as before exams or during course projects.

• They learned new technical skills, whether they were downloading files or creating new ones.
