Jim won’t compromise our health or environment for corporate profi ts, and he’ll keep cutting through
government red tape to defend our quality of life.
Keeping ForeignNuclear Waste Out of UtahJim is working for tough new laws that ban the importation of foreign nuclear waste into the U.S. No other country in the world takes nuclear waste from a foreign country—and neither should we.
Protecting Our Environmentfrom Radioactive WasteJim demanded that the Department of Energy move—not cap in place—the 16 million tons of radioactive tailings sitting on the banks of the Colorado River near Moab. He secured additional funding to speed up the completion of the site cleanup to meet his deadline of 2019.
Preventing Nuclear Weapons Testing in UtahJim brought people together to stop the “Divine Strake” 700-ton blast—a precursor to a new nuclear weapon. He is fi ghting for strict safety reviews of testing areas that will give public safety experts the tools they need to monitor radiation levels.
