STEWARDSHIP COMMITMENT SUNDAY On Stewardship Commitment Sunday, we commit to making a financial pledge in support of the vibrancy and the ministries of our parish life. To share from the blessings of life in the service of others is what discipleship of the Lord Jesus is all about. The financial choices we make are to the heart of our spirituality. Jesus is very blunt: To whom much is given, much is required.Today we begin the Ordinary Time of the Church year. The beauty of this season invites us to discover God in the very ordinary events of life – day to day, moment to moment. God is with us. Todays Gospel, as was last Sundays Gospel, celebrates the Baptism of the Lord. Last Sunday was Matthews account of the Lords Baptism, and this Sunday is Johns account of the Lords Baptism. Todays Gospel focuses on Johns relationship with Jesus, and how John witnesses and points the way for others to discover the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Todays Gospel doesnt focus just on who Jesus is -- as the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, as the Lord and Savior of our lives. Rather, the Gospel focuses on the relationship of John the Baptist to Jesus, on the faith and the witness of John that helps others to come to know Jesus. I prayerfully suggest that our relationship with Jesus is to the heart of todays Gospel. John could witness and share the light of Christ to others because he experiences the light of Christ in his heart and in his spirit. In our spirituality of stewardship, we live our baptismal mission to share the blessings of life that we have been given. This very much includes our wallet, our check book and our electronic ways of giving. My prayer is that our financial commitment is not a burden but rather an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. We ask that you place your commitment pledge card in the collection today expressing your financial gift to the parish. Be assured that this is not a legal contract. If your financial ability changes in the course of the year, you would be most welcome to alter your giving pledge. If you did not bring your commitment card with you, there are extra cards in the pews for your convenience. We are a Church in which everyone contributes to the degree we are able. We trust in your generosity, but we do ask that no one takes a free pass in the stewardship of treasure. We are better together when everyone contributes out of the blessings of life. To my dying day, my insurance policy to you is that you will never regret your generosity in the service of others. As long as our loving God continues to bless us and our family, we are asked to share these blessings with one another. I thank you for your generosity. Have a Blessed Day. STEWARDSHIP COMMITMENT SUNDAY

On Stewardship Commitment Sunday, we commit to making a financial pledge in support of the vibrancy and the ministries of our parish life. To share from the blessings of life in the service of others is what discipleship of the Lord Jesus is all about. The financial choices we make are to the heart of our spirituality. Jesus is very blunt: “To whom much is given, much is required.” Today we begin the Ordinary Time of the Church year. The beauty of this season invites us to discover God in the very ordinary events of life – day to day, moment to moment. God is with us. Today’s Gospel, as was last Sunday’s Gospel, celebrates the Baptism of the Lord. Last Sunday was Matthew’s account of the Lord’s Baptism, and this Sunday is John’s account of the Lord’s Baptism. Today’s Gospel focuses on John’s relationship with Jesus, and how John witnesses and points the way for others to discover the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Rather, the Gospel focuses on the relationship of John the Baptist to Jesus, on the faith and the witness of John that helps others to come to know Jesus. I prayerfully suggest that our relationship with Jesus is to the heart of today’s Gospel.
