FROM FR. EHLIDear Parishioners,
I want to again extend my sincere gratitude for the warm welcome that I have received since my arrival. You have been so gracious and kind to me. It has been a wonderful "homecoming," and I am grateful to be at this wonderful parish.
In my homily last weekend I made a suggestion to find out the date that you were baptized. Every year Pope Francis emphasizes the importance of doing this and celebrating that date because, in his words, "it is the date of great forgiveness" in our lives. I want to thank you for your wonderful response to this recommendation. If you haven't yet, or are not sure how to find out the date, I would suggest contacting the church in which you were baptized. Most churches retain records of all of their baptisms in a baptismal registry. The church in which you were confirmed or married should also have the date.
Father Gardner, Father Bouck and I want to extend our prayers and condolences for the recently deceased, especially for the families of Evelyn Campbell and Theresa Waltz. They are the mothers of our brother priests, Father Shane Campbell and Fathers Justin and Josh Waltz. These dear women were great examples of how to live a prayerful and holy life—one that fosters religious vocations. Please pray for them and their families and also for an increase in vocations to the religious life. Please also pray for the repose of the soul of Pat Gross, the father of Father Brian Gross. This diocese and parish have been blessed by the fine priest that Pat raised with the help of his beloved wife Lorna, whom he now joins in eternal rest.
Each year on January 22, all dioceses in the United States are called to observe a Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. January 22 is the anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court decisions that legalized abortion throughout our nation. Since then, over 60 million lives have been lost. That’s more than the size of Italy’s population. On January 22 we will have Eucharistic Adoration in the main body of the church from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with singing of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3:00 PM. I encourage you to take some time to stop in — perhaps during a lunch break, when picking up your children from school, or after work — to ask our Lord to end the scourge of abortion, to grant public servants courage and wisdom in defending human life, and especially for healing of those who have been affected in any way by abortion. Also, the March for Life in Washington, DC, is this Friday, January 24. Bishop Kagan will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral on January 20 at 9:30 AM for high school students making a pilgrimage to the march. Please keep the students and chaperones in your prayers this week. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Ehli
God our loving Father, grant wisdom to those who govern us, compassion and courage to those who work to defend human life, and safety and care to every human being. For you alone who formed us in our mothers' wombs, and who call us home to heaven, are God, for ever and ever. Amen.

If you would like to join the society, please feel welcome to attend this meeting, or send an email to [email protected].
