  Covering areas such as:

o  Theory of leadership,

o  Public speaking skills,

o  How to give speeches

Ken Krueger was the favourite speech. Millionaire. Computer trg mechanism. Spoke of being

a good leader; integrity, trustworthy and caring about the people you deal with. Tips aboutstarting out, he was a drop out and made something of himself.

Annabelle, at age of 19 went to Uganda to teach. By age of 22 started a school there from

scratch. Locally funded.

Another aspect was learning about yourself. How you respond to others. What natural

personality type you are. Different types come out and you have to work with these people

and examine how you do things yourself.

What I got out of it:

Leadership, need to be someone of integrity. Great in public life and the private side was

broken etc. Showing genuine care for those who work for you. Taking responsibility for not

only what you do but what others do as well.

Challenging living with 30 other youth who are on fire wanting to do things for the world.

quite revealing regards personalities. Inspiring to see what people can achieve.

Some of the questions asked by Rotarians:

As a home schooled student, how did RYLA affect you?

Now work at Mary Mead. Studying nutrition. Realise that people can make a difference, even with the people around you. Dr worked at hosp during the day and came to RYLA at

night.

How did you become involved with Mary Mead?

CEO from Mary Mead came out to talk about the community sector. Asked if anyone

wanted to get involved. Amy approached the CEO and is now working in the residential

section.

How did you feel about the personality test and what it revealed?

Never really thought

about her personality and

found it interesting.

Sue Jarvis thanked Amy for

sharing her experiences with the

Club members and presented her

with a book to sign for the School

Literacy programme, Shark Book….

Controversial!!

From the Pen of Mez Mulvaney…

What a very busy day we had on the 10th Anniversary of the Markets. The car park was filling up quickly at 0645 andthe blueberry lady had sold out by 7.15am.Tamara mentioned our club on her radio interview "ably assisted by the Rotary Club of Jerrabomberra!"Had a few special guests turn up for the special event, Sue and Peter Jarvis, Chilly and Paul Robey. Although there wasgreat expectation for the "event" we really didn't see much at all. There was some activity down the back of theMarkets, (four chefs, jumping castle, glitter face painting etc), however none that impacted on us. Hall Rotary set up amarquee outside where they had the cake and cupcakes and some giveaway bags, (the market bags Anne, so thatmay have depleted the stock a little) but much to the public’s disappointment they were being handed out on aschedule that only the Hall Rotarians knew about. I did manage to get some photos, but missed the cutting of the cake

and presentations. We had the usual queries. Due to the weather, the sale of water was down and much to Chilly's concern; the hire oftables was the lowest it has been. Hall markets used some for their marquee and of course the four chefs don't pay forthe hire of their tables either. So, other than the fact that during Lizzie's traffic duty, it didn't stop raining, it was a relatively quiet uneventful day!

Thank you, me ….

OUR HISTORY

In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club

based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of

mentor (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President).

Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on

18 November 1998 with 20 members. We are an unusual club as we have a very high proportion of female Members.

Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Store—the venue was very good until we grew in

numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years. We now meet at the

Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). As at 26 Jan 2014 the Club has 26 members —

11 female and 15 male. Included in this are seven married couples. We also have 4 supporters of the Rotary Club.

(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club bulletin and a design for the

Club banner. There were some good and (very) bad suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name;

Jerraganda. The banner design by David Stevens was eventually selected. The design incorporates a goose and the

windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate.

To label me an intellectual is a misunderstanding

of what that is.
