Volume 17 No 26 Welcome Back!! Meeting 777
16 Jan 13
Welcome: Pres Paul welcomed everyone to meeting 776, no
make that 777 (thank you David Stevens) though after much
discussion, Jan decided that the care factor was zero. Cathy
read the charge to Australia and Chilly (who double checked to
ensure that Terry Spencer was absent), toasted the Rotary Club
Nuka Alofa.
Pres Paul welcomed Brucesmum Sherri (hope the spelling is right!) who is here
from the USA, her second trip in her life out of Washington State, Aberdeen to be
exact. She has travelled all this way to attend our Australia Day BBQ and then she
apparently has a wedding to go or something.
I love you mummy!!!

Malcolm Braun joined us again, who has been coming here since 2002 and advised
our members that his Club is celebrating its 50thAnniversary on 26 Jun 14 and any
of our Club members in the vicinity would be most welcome to stay at his B&B.
Apologies:
Chris Hunter, Anton Pemmer, Paul Robey, Pam & Terry Spencer and
Glenn & Glenda Wahlert.
Jerraganda business:
From the Desk of the President:
Mrs Hunter promised the alarm was offand the Air Con would be
onas she has headed down the Coast for a wee break with her
beloved Rob. Mrs Hunter was 50% right!!! Make a big cash
withdrawal for our next home meeting Mrs H!!
Most of the members sat outside and chuckled (laughed
uproariously actually) every time the alarm came back on. David coped with the
delay the best.

In Nov at late notice we were asked to do a BBQ for the Institute Governors
Lunch. Pres Paul received a letter of thanks; the content of the letter is below:
Dear President Paul
What an amazing Rotary Club you have and we are deeply appreciative of your
superb efforts to assist the Rotary Zone Institute in November with the Barbeque
for the delegates on the Sunday.
Your willingness to step in at late notice and assist was indicative of the go
getting style that I understand your club is renowned for. PDG Len Goodman has
shared that you had a significant commitment already on the Saturday and took
this on and delivered it so successfully and you personally tied it all together
despite your Saturday activities.
Your contribution cannot be underestimated; our delegates were all delighted with
the food provided and again, a huge thank you to you and each of the club
members who volunteered their time.
Board Members. Please, please speak up when you give
your report; it is very difficult for me to pick up what you are
saying when your back is to me.
Reports: Secretary
SCBWUT (Sec cannot be with us tonight) but has nothing to
report anyway.

Relay for Life: 15 & 16 Feb 14. Bruce remained on the committee (we still love you
Bruce) and has his own Relay Team. He also has an activity sheet which he would
like members to indicate their assistance and will send around. If Bruce raises
enough money he will shave his head, however the minimum donation is $2500.00.
Robert reminded members of the need to stay safe during the heat. Keep out of
the sun and keep hydrated.
Roberts Big Announcement: Robert advised that due to his inability to commit to
Rotary, including his requirement to travel to Melbourne regularly for personal
reasons he now plans on joining Probus and will then be moving to Melbourne at
the end of the year.
Robert finished by thanking everyone for their friendship and thanked those
members who asked after his mothers health.
Pres Paul thanked Robert for all he has done in the club and is sure he will
continue to contribute to Probus and once he moves to Melbourne. Pres Paul also
advised Robert that now he has made his intentions clear to the Club, that we
would organise an appropriate farewell.
Jerra Rotary Fair: David Bailey briefed the following:
Fair has diminished in popularity and has now become unsustainable. The
idea this year was to revamp the Fair and come up with new ideas, including:
o Fun Run, and
o Talent Quest
Mid-March is a problem due to the short time in the year to organise events.
Entertainment is difficult to organise at the beginning of the year and
schools are loathe to make a commitment due to the short lead time.
The Art Show will no longer be tied with the Fair.
The logistics of both the Fun Run and the Talent quest is huge and cannot beorganised at the beginning of the year.
The Board has approved a change of date. The format will remain the same
and the new date will be late Octmid Nov.
Suggestion for Dining Meetings: David Bailey raised the request for ideas for
dining meetings. The Vietnamese restaurant in Weston Creek is exceptional and a
good alternative to local dining. It is only 15 mins away and should be seriously
considered as an option.
Proud Dad Announcement: David Baileys daughter Vanessa is in West Timor
helping out in a village and he puts that down to her affiliation with Rotary and her
attendance at RYPEN. Good job Dad and Club members.

Market Mistress:
Reminder for the markets: Took out 4 packs of water and
sold heaps. Please check the water stock and possibly take
water out. Also please take the cost out of the water and
ice from the water sales.
Market Mistress has released the latest version of the
roster; first name on the roster is responsible for the purchase of ice. If you buy
ice from the servo around the corner, you will definitely get it cheaper than
Chillys option.
Caf in the back corner has closed down and our table is the only option for water.
Need two eskies, so make sure whoever picks up the ice takes an esky with them.
During the hot mornings, car park rotations should be kept to a max of 30 mins
each person to ensure the safety of members.
SGT Fines: Great session and thankyou again for your
generosity, we took $42.80. Thanks in particular to Paul and
Sue Roger for their one upmanship. Great fines to the both
of you, but Sues fine won handsdown! For a price, I will
enlighten those missing members at the next fine session.
Oh dear Bruce, I would suggest you accompany Mrs H to the
bank and please dont blame your mum!!!
In God We Trust????
Heads and Tails:Why am I waiting???

Farmers Market Corner:
From the Pen of Cathy Hobbs
It was looking to be a busy market first up on a hot Saturday morning but it turned out everyone was just lined up forthe blueberries which sold out at 8am. Easy morning for her.Thank you to David B who filled in at the last minute for Colin who had to attend to 2 helicopters AOG.Chilly was totally off his routine due to the fact Gum Tree Pies are away until end of March so he couldn't have his pies. The sticky rice people were also away so he couldn't have his rice. He did however find a milkshake that was enough tosatisfy him. (I was going to say help his hangover but I thought I better leave that out.) (good job Cathy)I think Chilly got the gourmet variety of ice $6 a bag. Note for people buying ice, buy it at servo at corner $3/bag. Itcertainly helped having an extra esky and 3 bags of ice is sufficient. If you need more, it is not far to go and buy somemore. There should be enough water for next week (2x24 plus almost a full slab in esky.A number of stall holders still away.
Thank you, Cathy.

OUR HISTORY
In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club
based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of
mentor (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President).
Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on
18 November 1998 with 20 members. We are an unusual club as we have a very high proportion of female Members.
Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Storethe venue was very good until we grew in
numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years. We now meet at the
Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). As at 11 Jun 2013 the Club has 27 members
11 female and 16 male. Included in this are seven married couples. We also have 4 supporters of the Rotary Club.
(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club bulletin and a design for the
Club banner. There were some good and (very) bad suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name;
Jerraganda. The banner design by David Stevens was eventually selected. The design incorporates a goose and the
windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate.
