What our students have to say....

“I have benefited greatly by participating in this program in both my professional and my personal life. I have learned how to have conversations with people that used to be intimidating for me, and learned how to work with my team members in a way that promotes growth and learning. What I found to be the most valuable was the

opportunities to put the information and skills into practice in the classroom. The instructors were all so approachable, offering insight and wonderful advice. I

would absolutely recommend this program to anyone looking to develop skills that not only benefit their leadership, but support them to develop better interpersonal relationships with anyone.”

Meet JIBC Instructor, Shawn Ireland

Dr. Shawn Ireland, EdD, MA, MS, teaches in the NEW Certificate in Applied Leadership. His expertise includes action-learning initiatives in support of personal and organization development including managing change, coaching, management of virtual teams, and fostering critical thinking.

“ The JIBC provides a more experiential learning environment than any other place I’ve taught, and people have a richer learning experience as a result. This can be

sometimes challenging as learners have to make both an emotional and intellectual investment, but this type of participation is worth it in the end.

The use of simulation technology like Praxis increases the experiential nature of our courses. I’ve been involved in simulations since 1985, and they really help learners take what’s in their heads and apply it in a safe environment. You can immediately see the impact of your decisions. It’s an opportunity to become immersed in a real world experience and make mistakes and learn from them – this is key to a good educational experience. ”Dr.ShawnIreland,JIBCInstructor

What our clients are saying... a student’s perspective

“I am a huge fan of this course on leading teams and managing change. The course was very inspiring and empowering and its success is due in part to the instructors. I have left the course with new skill sets and insight. I will use these skills both at home and at work on multiple levels.” Holly Anderson, WorkSafeBC
