DRAWING IN THE GALLERIES: THE BIRDS OF AMERICAThursdays, January 20 & 27 / 6 – 8 pm

Learn to draw birds directly from the works in Explorer, Naturalist, Artist: John James Audubon and The Birds of America. Using pencil, choose your subject matter from a flamingo, eagle, hawk, heron, owl and other magnificent birds featured in the exhibit. JEWELRY: ART CLAY SILVERSaturday, February 26 / 10 am – 5 pm

Students will complete three silver metal clay projects, learning a variety of basic techniques. Gain a working knowledge of lump, paste and syringe clay, as well as simple stone settings. Students will fire one project with a torch. Other firings will be done by the instructor in an electric kiln. A $75 materials fee is due to the instructor at the beginning of class. WATERCOLOR FOR THE ABSOLUTE BEGINNER, YOUNG PEOPLE OR THE YOUNG AT HEART

Saturday, March 19 / 10 am – 5 pm

This workshop is for those want a strong foundation using watercolor in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Paint a simple still life, receiving step-by-step instructions and instructor demonstrations. The class will start with an explanation of supplies, technique and the importance of color and composition. In the afternoon, sketch a composition in pencil and then paint a still life. A $17 supply fee (for professional quality pigments, paper and pigment dish to keep) is due to the instructor at the beginning of class. MOSAIC KNITTINGSaturday, March 5 / 12:30 – 4:30 pm

Create multi-colored projects using the slip stitch technique of mosaic knitting. Only one color is used per row, making it easier than standard knitting styles. Starting with a simple pattern, learn basic techniques and progress to more complex patterns and methods to learn two fabric styles. Charting, design, pattern writing, and books to buy will be covered. Students should already know how to knit, purl, cast on and bind o�. BOOK ARTS: FOUNDATIONAL CALLIGRAPHY Tuesdays, February 1 – March 22 / 6 – 9 pm

Learn the beautiful, clear and versatile style of calligraphy that is based on a circular “o.” The lovely rounded forms are an ideal place to begin your calligraphy education or renew your skills. COLOR: AN INTRODUCTIONThursdays, January 27 – March 3 / 6 – 9 pm

SCULPTURE: MOLDMAKING

Mondays, February 28 – April 4 / 6 – 9 pm

Learn to cast multiple sculptures by exploring a simple four step mold-making process. Molds can be used to cast many di�erent kinds of media – from plaster to bronze – and are ideal for making handmade decorations or gifts. A $20 supply fee is due to the instructor the first day of class for mold-making supplies. ACRYLIC PAINTING: PORTRAITS & THE CLOTHED FIGURE Tuesdays, January 25 – March 1 / 6 - 9 pm

Explore portraiture and the clothed figure by painting clothed models. First, get familiar with facial structure and value by drawing portraits using charcoal. Then, learn the properties of the fast-drying and versatile medium of acrylics. Study form, edge, and value and explore the use of di�erent color palates. PAINTING II: OILSTuesdays, March 8 – April 12 / 6 – 9 pm

Paint a still life with traditional oils using the ala prima (in one sitting) method and gain a foundational knowledge of setting up subjects, blocking, brushwork, mixing color and the use of mediums. Learn how to use oils without toxic solvents — only walnut oil and rags will be used for cleanup after each lesson. DRAWING THE FIGUREThursdays, March 10 – April 14 / 9 am – Noon

The focus of this six-week life drawing course is the nude human figure. Begin each class with gesture drawings and then proceed to longer poses which result in detailed renderings of the human form. THE PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAITTuesdays, February 8 – March 15 / 6 – 9 pm

Explore the power and subtlety of the photographic portrait. Learn to capture a subject’s personality through lighting demonstrations and photo shoots at the studio of photographer Je� Ross. Designed for those looking to build their photography portfolio or apply to design schools, three hours of portraiture homework will be assigned each week. REGISTRATIONPre-registration is required. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until maximum class size is reached. Classes are limited in size. Early registration is recommended.

CANCELLATION POLICYStudents needing to withdraw from a class after registering may receive a tuition refund less a $5 administrative fee if the Museum is notified five business days before the first session of class. No refunds thereafter.

SCHOLARSHIPSScholarships are available to students of all ages for e. l. Cord Museum School classes due to a generous grant from the e. l. Cord Foundation. CLASS LOCATIONMost classes are held at the e. l. Cord Museum School, located at the Nevada Museum of Art, Donald W. Reynolds Center for the Visual Arts, e. l. Wiegand Gallery at 160 West Liberty Street in downtown Reno. Students should enter the School through the outdoor gate to the left of the doors marked “e. l. Cord Museum School and employee and security entrance.” These doors are located to the south end of the building and can be seen from the parking lot. Driving directions for classes hosted o�-site will be made available to students at the time of registration.
