NEW PARISH ADMINISTRATOR
I am pleased to announce that we have hired a new Pastoral Assistant for Administration. Please join me in welcoming Desiree Olmo, a long time staff member and parishioner of many years to this new position. Desi has served as our parish bookkeeper for twelve years and with this background she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience about our parish operations and the day-to-day running of our parish that will provide a smooth transition in the weeks and months ahead. Desi will also continue to serve as parish bookkeeper, marrying both positions together. She has a great love for our faith family and for the work that she feels God has called her to embrace. These will be blessings to us as we continue to move through the challenges and uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. May God bless her everyday with what she most needs to continue to serve our community well.

From today’s Gospel reading: "A sower went out to sow.... some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.”
Reflection: We might imitate the parable and at least try a little sowing. We will keep eyes and ears open for a chance, in some overt or subtle way, to speak a word of faith to the curious, weary, despairing, doubting and searching. Who knows what the results of such seed-sowing might be? But the results are not under our control, are they? We are those who sow, wait and look for surprising results.
So, we ask ourselves: - How am I now the seed that God is planting in the world? - Where and when am I called to speak the Word of God in my daily life?
The St. Vincent de Paul Assistance Office and Food Bank is in need of volunteers. We are following all social distancing and
sanitization procedures and are providing masks for our volunteers, employees and clients. We need your help!! If you have a few hours available please email [email protected] or call 360-479-7017, ext #2.
Question: Why do Catholics baptize babies?
Answer: For adults who want to be baptized, the celebration only takes place after a long, guided, and thoughtful process through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. This is also
true for many Protestant Christians, who are baptized later in life, often after a personal, transforming religious experience. So, it seems fair to ask why our Catholic tradition includes
infant baptism. After all, if we make adults who want to become Catholic wait months and even years as they grow in their understanding of Christ and his teachings, why should babies
— who “do nothing” — be baptized?
Our custom of infant baptism dates back to the earliest days of the Church, when St. Paul baptized entire households, including, we presume, children (see Acts 16:15, 33; 18:8). That had become common practice by the second century. When Christianity was legalized 200
years later, infant baptism became the normal practice throughout the Church.
We recognize that in Baptism, we are given the grace to overcome original sin — the human tendency to choose ourselves and our own wills over God — and to become members of the Church. This is the gift we give to infants in Baptism. In its essence, the baptism of infants
also reminds us adult Christians that the gift of salvation and membership in the Church (i.e., the Body of Christ) is God’s initiative. It is freely offered to us, regardless of where we might be in life’s journey. Salvation isn’t something we earn. Instead, we see that Baptism is the be-
ginning of a lifelong process of growing into the kind of disciples that Jesus wants us to be. (To learn more, see the “Catechism of the Catholic Church” (no. 1250-1252 and 1262-1270) ©LPi)

In his Pastoral Letter “The Work of Redemption: Eucharistic Belief and Practice in the Archdiocese of Seattle,” Archbishop Paul D. Etienne invites everyone to celebrate a Year of the Eucharist. Through this year of prayer and study, we will foster and strengthen our celebration of the incredible gift of the Eucharist. Your parish and Catholic School will bring this pastoral letter to life with creative programs and a wealth of Year of the Eucharist resources:
Help for living your faith at home
Retreats
Speaker series
Webinars for liturgical ministers
Links to great resources and more!
Over the next year, we’ll explore different dimensions of the Eucharist, echoing the shape of the Mass:
Gathering – What makes us community? (It’s the Eucharist, of course!)
Word – How the Scriptures can come to life in our lives
Presence – The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, the center of Church and of our lives
Sending – Our mission to carry on the work of Jesus – serving the poor andvulnerable, proclaiming the Gospel, and sanctifying the world
We encourage you to join in the celebration of the Year of the Eucharist.
Read Archbishop’s pastoral letter. Listen to what the Scriptures are saying to us. Spend time with the Blessed Sacrament.
Join in the Year of the Eucharist at your parish!

“How beautiful it is when we learn to
live as Christ, when we allow Christ to live more
fully in and through us. This is a big part of what
the Eucharistic life is all about!”
– Archbishop Etienne“How wonderful it
would be if, during the coming year,
each of us could grow in our desire and ability
to be in prayerful conversation with
Christ, present in the Blessed Sacrament!
