Band and Music Tuition The Country Areas Program will again be funding the employment of Mrs Katherine Wilson to tutor the school‟s Concert Band. Mrs Wilson has been doing a sterling job tutoring the band for the past four years. I would like to invite all students, particularly our new students, to join the band. Mrs Wilson also provides private tuition as part of the outreach program of the Macquarie Conservatorium in Dubbo. Band and tuition are available on each Wednesday during the school year. Students are able to hire instruments from the school. Please contact me if you are interested in joining or would like more information.

Deputy’s Desk This term has started off very well and I know myself that I have hit the ground running. Things certainly have been busy. Last Jumbunna came and went before I could write any article. The same nearly happened with this one. I have been hearing some wonderful responses from students when asked how things are going at school. It has been good to hear of students who want to try hard, do well in their schooling and being allowed to do so. This is the important factor; students must be allowed to develop at their real potential without disruptive students pulling them down. The way that classes have been set up allows for students to work to their potential, both academically and practically. I am happy with the way this is going at present, and would like to hear from parents and students for their comments. School Swimming Carnival Thanks to everyone for the wonderful Swimming Carnival that was held recently. The vast majority of the pupils participated well and behaved to a high standard. I was very proud of the way that most conducted themselves and the effort that they put into trying so hard in the races. Some students shone in their athletic abilities, some in their helpfulness and some in their organisation skills. I was very surprised in some cases. Meet the Teacher Afternoon and SRC inductions It was good to see so many parents and friends able to get to the school on Wednesday 22 Feb for the SRC Induction Assembly as well as meeting the staff. The Assembly went very well thanks to Mrs Steele‟s and her cohorts organisation. I always like to hear Mr White “tickle the ivories”. He really is a talented musician. The BBQ was enjoyed by the staff and parents – how could you not enjoy creaming soda, snags, bread and sauce? Thanks to all those who attended and who helped out. Again Mr White showed his talents in cooking the snags, and along with myself, we cooked up a storm.

Gobondery/NARRAF Swimming From all accounts was a very successful carnival. Ms Reeves, Miss Oriel, Mrs Trudgett and Ms Oates from Warren Central School, along with a large contingent of students helped to make the day a success. More information will be forthcoming in Ms Reeves‟ report.

Annual Swimming Carnival This year's carnival was a great success and I'd like to thank all the staff, parents and students involved on the day. It was wonderful to see a large number students participating in events and demonstrating great house spirit. We also saw some excellent times recorded throughout the day. We are now looking forward to the Secondary School Western Area Swimming Trials. Congratulations to Matthew Marks, Stephanie Moors, Molly Gough, Matthew Woolnough and Mark Kilpatrick from the secondary school who were selected to compete in this event in Cowra on March 2. Mr J. Le

Homework The staff in B Block have been extremely impressed with the positive response to homework so far this term and some of the fantastic tasks the students have been handing in already….soon Year 5/6 Wheat will be able to assemble a class band with the unusual array of musical instruments the students have made! It has also been wonderful to receive some fabulous feedback from both the students and their parents/carers. Library The students are currently being given information in regard to The Premier‟s Reading Challenge by Mrs Whittaker in their Library lessons. School Uniform Well done to all our students who continually wear the school uniform with pride. Beat the heat Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. Remind your child to protect themselves from sun and heat exposure while at school by:

reducing their exposure to the sun, wherever possible

wearing broad-brimmed hats in the playground to protect the face, neck and ears

playing in shaded areas, particularly during peak times of UV levels

drinking plenty of water

using 30+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen.

With that in mind…“Hat on, play on” With the warm weather we will be again closely monitoring the wearing of hats for outdoor activities. Students without a school hat are required to play under the shelter and are not permitted in the playground during breaks. Please check your child/children‟s hats for labels, size etc. New hats are available through the front office for $12 each. Update your details Have you moved, got a new email address or changed phone numbers? Please inform the front office with any changes in your living situation so we can contact you if the need arises. Reduce, reuse, recycle Australians throw away 3.3 million tonnes of food every year – up to a quarter of the country's food supplies - mainly because we purchase too much. Consider planning your meals and only buy what you need. Reduce packaging in your child‟s lunchbox and use re-usable containers rather than plastic wrap where possible. Mrs McArdle - Assistant Principal A Block & Ms Reeves - Assistant Principal B Block

Parent Tips from Department of Education & Communities All ages Lunchbox inspiration It‟s easy to fall back on the same tried and tested school lunches, but why not try something new, tasty, easy and healthy?
