The Mind that Hungers for Christ

Dear friends,

School may be out, but the opportunities to fill our hearts and minds with the beauty of divine mysteries continue on (including Totus Tuus all this week!).

Always, always Jesus is teaching – looking for hearts open to God’s words and offering a Word able to touch the deepest parts of who we are. Jesus still looks for those wanting to learn. Do we desire to learn? Do we hunger to know? And to know not just about things, but about the Author and Conductor of all that is and about the timeless relationship he desires to have with you? What are ways to get to know Him more this summer?

In a “fast food drive thru” world, our reading (and learning) can be reduced to watching short videos, perusing a few online articles or following our favorite blog or podcast. I know well the enticement these sources of learning can provide, but the human mind and heart longs for a deep dive into deep mysteries. Of course, we meet these mysteries most profoundly in praying the Gospels. Yet, I know many who could use a guide as they go before the Teacher.

Here are a few wonderful titles (hardcover or Kindle) that will fill out the portrait of the One who seeks your heart and enlightens your mind:

♦ The Lord by Romano Guardini ♦ To Know Christ Jesus by Frank Sheed ♦ Life of Christ by Fulton Sheed

Happy reading!

Fr. Scott

Hail Mary!

We will continue to pray the rosary on the 13th of each month. On Mother’s Day, May 13, 20 prayer warriors joined in the rosary at St. Augustine. Let’s continue to pray to our Mother on Wednesday, June 13, at noon in St. Augustine’s prayer garden. A special thank you

goes to Tom Rentz for coordinating and leading the rosary.

Make your appointment today to have your photo taken for our parish directory. Visit our websites or call your parish office to register.

Welcome Into the Body of Christ

St. Augustine welcomes into the holy waters of baptism Hudson Michael Wheece, son of Jason and Rachel. May God bless you abundantly as you take this first step on your journey of faith.

Condolences

We offer sincere condolences to the families of †Hope Hutt of St. Mary’s Cathedral and †Valeria Eiynck of St. Augustine. Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon them. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Diaconate Ordination at

St. Mary’s Cathedral

The Diocese of Saint Cloud joyfully announces the ordinations Richard Aubol, Mark Botzet, and Gregory Sauer to the transitional diaconate, and the ordination of Dean Pawlowski to the permanent diaconate by Bishop Donald J. Kettler on Saturday, June 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. All are welcome to this liturgy to celebrate with these men.

Mass Times Changes at St. Augustine This Week

As we welcome the Totus Tuus team and participants, the Mass times are changed to 11:15 am this week. All are welcome to pray with these young people. The regular Mass schedule will resume next week.

Volunteers Needed

Here’s your opportunity to become more involved in the life of the parish. St. Augustine’s needs volunteers to water plants this summer as well as wash altar linens. Please call the parish office if you have a few free hours.

Food Shelf Sunday - 3rd Sunday of Each Month

The food shelf needs our help restocking their shelves. Nonperishable food donations, paper products, and personal care items are all needed. As an ongoing project, St. Augustine will begin a “Food Shelf Sunday” program. Boxes will be out in the entryway the third Sunday of each month to collect your donations. Volunteers will gather the donations and take them to the food shelf the following week. Please be sure your contributions are unused and have not expired.!

Fr. Doug Liebsch has been assigned as chaplain of Cathedral High School and will be taking on

his new duties at the end of June.

All parishioners of St. Augustine and St. Mary’s Cathedral are invited to a Farewell Party in his honor.

Please come to thank Fr. Doug and wish him well on Thursday, June 14, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in the lower church

of St. Mary’s Cathedral.

People of faith are committed to serving others in God’s love in healthcare, child welfare, migration and refugee resettlement, education, and more. Religious freedom protects the space in which we can continue to serve. Religious Freedom Week begins June 22, the Feast of

Sts. Thomas More and John Fisher. Join Catholics across the country to pray and act for the freedom to serve

faithfully and with integrity.

Please join together with Bishop Donald Kettler in prayer and adoration on Monday, June 25, from

7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Mississippi Saints Update

What a beautiful night to be out cheering on the Mississippi Saints last Tuesday! Our contender was Discovery Church. Fr. Scott went 3 for 3 with a walk. He hit a triple and two singles! DJ Ouimette went 3 for 3. He had 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. The final score was 8-18. This Tuesday, June 12, our opponent will be Celebration Church. We play at 6:05 on Whitney Field 4.

Bishop’s Annual Golf Tournament

Join us for the 4th Annual Bishop’s Golf Tournament, Monday, June 18, at the Territory Golf course. All proceeds go to the Seminarian Education Fund which is held by the Catholic Foundation. This fund supports our diocesan seminarians with tuition and expenses. A team of four ($300) will enjoy 18 holes of golf, hole contests, prizes, silent auction, food and the satisfaction of following the footsteps of Jesus Christ as we help pass on the faith. Not a golfer? Please join us as a hole sponsor ($200), a silver sponsor (which includes a team of four ($500), or donate an item or basket to our silent auction. You can register at catholicfoundation.info. Any questions, please contact Alice at (320) 258-7656 or Jill at (320) 258-7653.

Catholic Foundation Ireland Pilgrimage

Explore the most treasured shrines of Ireland as you visit the "Emerald Isle's" scenic lands and cultures of the Catholic faith. This tour is being offered by the Catholic Foundation for the St. Cloud Diocese and departs October 17, with return October 29. Fr. Jeremy Ploof is the spiritual leader accompanying the group. For a brochure with complete details and itinerary, contact Alice Coudron at 320-258-7656 or email [email protected].

Remember When...

St. Augustine parish members are invited to share memorable moments of church life to be included in our Centennial Celebration project. Your memories of past priests, faith formation classes, altar server antics, remembrances from building projects, and stories that connect us as a parish community are all welcome. Please email stories and memories to Heather Baumann at [email protected] or write them down and send them to the parish office.
