K2 Summit/Solo system requirements

To support connection to a K2 Dyno Replay Controller, your K2 Summit Production Client or K2Solo Media Server must meet requirements as follows. Refer to compatibility information in releasenotes for complete and updated requirements.

• K2 Summit Production Client with internal storage, direct-connect storage, or shared K2 SANstorage.

• All K2 Summit systems controlled by a K2 Dyno Replay Controller on a K2 SAN must havetheir timecode synchronized to house timecode

• Depending on media formats required, a K2 Summit Production Client must have appropriatelicenses and/or hardware installed.

• The version of K2 system software must be compatible with the version of K2 Dyno software.Refer to release notes.

• AppCenter Pro license is required. On K2 Solo Media Server, the license is standard. On K2Summit Production Client, the license must be installed, if not already present.

• If using ChannelFlex Suite features, the K2 Summit Production Client or K2 Solo Media Serverrequirements are as follows:

• K2 system software 7.4 or higher• AppCenter Elite license• Super Slo-Mo also requires the HD license

Procure software and/or hardwareDepending on your desired system, procure the following items so that they are available for theinstallation process. You can download software fromhttp://www.grassvalley.com/support/downloads.

• If K2 System software and K2 Dyno Client software must be installed or upgraded, procure theappropriate version via download or other mechanism.

• If AppCenter Pro is not currently licensed on the K2 Summit Production Client to which youare connecting the K2 Dyno Replay Controller, consider the following:

• When you install K2 system software, AppCenter Pro is licensed with a 30 day trial license.• To avoid installation delays, start the licensing process well before the 30 day trial period

expires.

About K2 Dyno Replay Controller modes

The K2 Dyno Reply Controller operates in the following modes:

• Dyno mode – The Dyno application is open for normal operations such as capturing and replayinghighlight clips.

• Maintenance mode – The Dyno application is closed and the Windows operating system desktopis available for system tasks such as network configuration and software update.

By default, the K2 Dyno Replay Controller is in the Dyno mode. You must manually put the unitin the maintenance mode, which requires a restart.

Start K2 Summit/Solo

1. Start up the K2 system.

2. Log on to the K2 system with the default Windows administrator account:

• Username: Administrator• Password: adminK2

(The password is case sensitive)

At first startup, End User License Agreements appear on the screen. Accept the agreements tocontinue.

The Power LED goes on and stays on. The Service LED stays off. Startup processes completein approximately two minutes and the K2 system is ready for connection and operation.

Disable write filter

1. If you have not already done so, log on to the K2 system with Windows administrator privileges.

2. From the Windows desktop, click Start | All Programs | Grass Valley | Write Filter Utility.

FBWF Manager opens.

3. Under Filter Settings, set Filter to Disable.

Do not modify other settings.

4. Click OK.

5. When prompted, restart the K2 system.

Proceed as follows:

• If a K2 client on a K2 SAN, skip ahead to software installation tasks. Network configuration isalready done on a K2 client operating on a K2 SAN.

• If a stand-alone K2 client on which the network is not yet configured, continue with the nexttask.

Configure network on stand-alone K2 Summit/Solo

1. If you have not already done so, disable the write filter.

2. Access the Windows desktop on the K2 system. You can do this locally with a connectedkeyboard, mouse, and monitor or remotely via the Windows Remote Desktop Connection.

3. Open the Network Connections dialog box:

• In the Windows Classic view, select Start | Settings | Network Connections.• In the Windows XP view, select Start | Control Panel | Network Connections.

4. Continue with standard Windows procedures to configure the TCP/IP protocol properties. Youcan set up the network using DHCP, DNS, WINS, or other standard networking mechanisms.

NOTE: On small networks or networks with certain security policies a DHCP server or domainname server (DNS) might not be available. In this case you can set up a static IP address andcreate a host file on each K2 system.

5. Configure the control connection on the stand-alone internal storage K2 system as follows:

a) Configure the network connection with the following name:

Control Team

The control team is GigE ports 1 (Control Connection #1) and 4 (Control Connection #2) onthe rear panel.

NOTE: Under no circumstances should you modify the loopback adapter. The loopbackIP address is 192.168.200.200. Keep that IP address reserved on your network. Don’t assignit to any other device. If this causes conflicts with your existing network, consult your GrassValley representative.

6. Configure the FTP/streaming connection (if needed) on the stand-alone internal storage K2system.

This connection must have an IP address that is on a different subnet from the control connection.There are special name resolution requirements for the FTP/streaming network. Refer to the K2System Guide.

Configure as follows:

a) Configure the network connection with the following name:

Media Connection #1

This is GigE port 2 on the rear panel.

7. If prompted to restart, enable the write filter, then restart.

About K2 Dyno software

This is the software components in the K2 Dyno Replay system:

• K2 Dyno Client software – This software runs on the K2 Dyno Controller.

When installing/upgrading K2 Dyno software you must consider versions and compatibility for allcomponents. If software is not yet installed on the device, find the first-time installation instructionsin this manual. If software is already installed on the device and needs to be upgraded, find upgradeinstructions in the release notes for the version of K2 Dyno software to which you are upgrading.

Uninstall K2 Dyno Server software on SummitAs of K2 Dyno software version 2.0, you no longer need K2 Dyno Database Server and K2 DynoServer software on the K2 Summit Production Client or K2 Solo Media Server.

On your Summit system, follow these steps:

1. Uninstall the K2 Dyno Database Server software.

2. Uninstall the K2 Dyno Server software.

Enable write filterPrerequisite:

• K2 software must be installed on the K2 system.

1. If you have not already done so, log on to the K2 system with Windows administrator privileges.

2. From the Windows desktop, click Start | All Programs | Grass Valley | Write Filter Utility.

1. Log on with K2 administrator credentials.

2. In Configuration Manager, click Channel and then select a channel tab to make settings.

• On K2 Summit Production Client, typical settings are as follows:

• Configure channels C1 and C2 as record channels. Make video and audio settings asappropriate for your input.

• Configure channels C3 and C4 as play channels. Make video and audio settings asappropriate for your output.

• On K2 Solo Media Server, typical settings are as follows:

• Configure channels C1 as a record channel. Make video and audio settings as appropriatefor your input.

• Configure channels C2 as a play channel. Make video and audio settings as appropriatefor your output.

• If using ChannelFlex Suite features, configure a channel's Channel Type, selecting one of thefollowing:

• 3D/Video+Key Player• 3D/Video+Key Recorder• Multi-Cam Recorder• Super Slo-Mo x2 Recorder• Super Slo-Mo x3 Recorder

Refer to the K2 AppCenter User Manual for detailed procedures.

Start a new session on the K2 Dyno ControllerDo this task on the following systems:

• A K2 Dyno Controller that controls a stand-alone K2 system.• The first K2 Dyno Controller on a K2 SAN system of the group of controllers that share media

on the K2 SAN.

1. On the K2 Dyno Replay Controller, open K2 Dyno.

2. Touch Add Server and manually enter the K2 Summit/Solo name (not the IP address), or selectthe K2 Summit/Solo controlled by the K2 Dyno Controller and Connect or Reconnect.

3. Select New session.

4. For a typical system, do the following:

a) Set C1 and C2 to Recorder.b) Set C3 and C4 to Player.c) Touch Next.

5. Touch Start.

If you have multiple K2 Dyno Controllers on a K2 SAN, continue with the next task.

Adding a server manually

If the K2 Summit/Solo is not discovered by the K2 Dyno Controller, you can add the server manually.Dyno will not add a server that does not have the current version of the K2 system software asspecified in the Version Compatibility.

1. In the Startup screen, press Add Server on the touch screen. The online keyboard displays.2. Enter the server name of the server and press Enter.

NOTE: Do not add the IP address of the server.

3. If you need to edit the server name, press Remove Server on the touch screen and repeat steps1-2.

NOTE: If Dyno does not display the server name in the list of available servers, try to ping theserver and verify the server name, software version, and network connections.

Add a K2 Dyno Controller to a session on a K2 SANAfter you have started a session on the first K2 Dyno Controller on a K2 SAN system, do thefollowing task on each subsequent K2 Dyno Controller that shares media on the K2 SAN.

1. On the K2 Dyno Replay Controller, open K2 Replay Client.

2. Select Configure.

3. Select the K2 Summit/Solo controlled by the K2 Dyno Controller and Next.

4. Select the session already started by the first K2 Dyno Controller on the K2 SAN and Next.

5. For a typical system, do the following:

a) Set C1 and C2 to Recorder.b) Set C3 and C4 to Player.c) Touch Next.

6. For a typical system, do the following:

a) Set C3 to PGM.b) Set C4 to PVW.c) Touch Start.

All the K2 Dyno Controllers on the same session share highlights and playlists.
