Karl Stevens: The Lodger July 6 – August 21, 2010 Reception and Book Signing: Thursday July 15, 5:30 – 7:30 Carroll and Sons is pleased to present, The Lodger, the latest graphic novel by the Boston Phoenix comic artist Karl Stevens. Like Steven’s weekly comic strip, Failure, that runs in the Boston Phoenix, The Lodger chronicles the life of a 30-year-old, single male, who is a struggling artist living in Boston. The Lodger features the work from Karl's newest graphic novel of the same name that follows the artist’s exploits throughout 2009. The Lodger is the first book of what is anticipated to be a five-year project. The works are grouped by month and include drawings in pen and ink on white and colored papers, watercolor on paper, and oil on panel. Karl’s exquisite draftsmanship and his meticulous attention to detail contrast with the slacker lifestyle captured in the images; his precision and skill is balanced by the insecurities and human foibles they depict.
