Narradora Hace muchos siglos, en un lugar que es hoy conocido como el Medio Oriente, vivía un pueblo llamado Israel. Su historia, como señala el Antiguo Testamento, fue larga y difícil. Ellos tuvieron que luchar con la tierra estéril, y muchos fueron oprimidos por invasores vecinos. Aunque, eran un pueblo religioso, y pusieron su esperanza y confianza en el único Dios verdadero. La Palabra de Dios les era revelada por sus grandes profetas. Fueron fortalecidos por la promesa de que Dios les enviaría un Salvador, el Mesías, que los redimiría del pecado y les conduciría a la vida eterna. Narradora: Dice el Profeta Zacarías

Zacarías: “Alégrate mucho, ciudad de Sión! ¡Canta de alegría, ciudad de Jerusalén! Tu rey viene a ti, justo y victorioso, pero humilde, montado en un burrito, cría de una burra.”

Narradora: Dice el Profeta Miqueas

Miqueas: “El Señor mismo les va a dar una señal: La joven esta encinta y va a tener un hijo, al que pondrán por nombre Emmanuel.” Levántate, Jerusalén, envuelta en resplandor, porque ha llegado tu luz y la gloria del Señor brilla sobre ti.

Narrator Many centuries ago, in a place that is today known as the Middle

East, lived a nation of people who were called Jews. Their history, as told in the Old Testament, was long and difficult. Not only did they have to struggle with the barren land, but many times they were oppressed by foreign invaders. However, they were a religious people and they put their hope and trust in the one true God. The word of God was revealed to them through their great prophets, and they were strengthened by God’s promise that He would send to earth a Savior, the Messiah, who would deliver them from sin into everlasting life. Hear these words now from three of God’s prophets.

Narrator The Prophet Isaiah says

Isaiah Behold, the .Lord shall arise, and his glory shall be seen. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. For a child has been born to us, a son given to us, and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Narrator The Prophet Zechariah says

Zechariah Rejoice greatly, 0 city of Zion. Shout, 0 daughter of Jerusalem. For behold, your king comes to you. He is the righteous Savior, and He shall speak peace to the Gentiles.

Narrator The Prophet Micah says

Micah This shall be the sign of the Lord. Behold! A virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel, which means, God with us. Arise! Shine! For the light of the Lord is come, and the Glory of the Lord is risen upon you

Estribillo Mi alma glorifica al Señor, Mi Dios. Gózase mi espíritu en mi Salvador.

El es mi alegría, es mi plenitud El es todo para mí.

1. Ha mirado la bajeza de su sierva, muy dichosa me dirán todos los pueblos, por que en mí ha hecho grandes maravillas el que todo puede, cuyo nombre es: Santo.

2. Su clemencia se derrama por los siglos sobre aquellos que le temen y le aman; desplegó el gran poder de su derecha, dispersó a los que piensan que son algo.

Narrador: En el sexto mes, el ángel Gabriel fue enviado por Dios a una ciudad de Galilea llamada Nazaret, a una virgen desposada con un hombre llamado José, de la casa de David. El nombre de la virgen era María. Cuando entró a donde ella estaba, dijo:

Ángel: Dios te salve, María. Llena eres de gracia! El Señor esté contigo.

Narrador: Pero ella se turbo por sus palabras y se preguntaba que clase de salutación sería esta.

Ángel No temas, María! Porque has hallado gracia ante Dios. He aquí concebirás en tu vientre y darás a luz un hijo, y llamarás su nombre Jesús.

María: ¿Cómo será esto? Porque yo no conozco varón.

Ángel: El Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti, y el poder del Altísimo te cubrirá con su sombra, por lo cual también el santo Ser que nacerá será llamado Hijo de Dios.

María: He aquí la sierva del Señor; hágase conmigo conforme a tu palabra.

Narrador: Y el ángel se fue de ella. En esos días se levantó María y fue de prisa a una ciudad en la región montañosa de Judá. Entró en casa de Zacarías y saludó a Isabel. Aconteció que, cuando Isabel oyó la salutación de María, la criatura salto en su vientre. E Isabel fue llena del Espíritu Santo, y exclamó a gran voz y dijo:

Isabel: Bendita eres entre todas las mujeres, y bendito el fruto de tu vientre! ¿De donde se me concede esto, que la madre de mi Señor venga a mi? Cuando llegó a mis oídos tu voz de salutación, la criatura salto de alegría en mi vientre. Bienaventurada la que creyó, porque se cumplirá lo que le ha sido dicho de parte del Señor.

Narrator In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said,

Angel "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you."

Narrator But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

Angel Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him JESUS.

Mary ‘How can this be, since I am a virgin?

Angel ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God.

Mary Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.’

Narrator Then the angel departed from her. In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry,

Elizabeth "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord."

Mary "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.

Narrador: El nacimiento de Jesucristo fue de esta manera: María, la madre de Jesús, estaba comprometida para casarse con José; y antes que vivieran juntos, ella se encontró encinta por el poder del Espíritu Santo. José, su marido, era un hombre justo, pero no quería denunciar públicamente a María; más bien quería separarse de ella sin que la gente lo supiera. Y mientras pensaba en esto, un Ángel del Señor se le apareció en sueños y le dijo:

Ángel: José, descendiente de David, no tengas miedo de recibir a María como esposa, porque el hijo que va a tener es del Espíritu Santo. Ella tendrá un hijo, y le pondrás por nombre JESÚS. Se llamará así porque va a salvar a su gente de sus pecados.

Narrador: Cuando José despertó del sueño, hizo como el ángel del Señor le había mandado, y recibió a María como esposa. Pero no vivieron como esposos hasta que ella dió a luz a su hijo; y le puso por nombre JESÚS.

José: María … María

Narradora: Aconteció en aquellos días que salió un edicto de parte de César Augusto, para levantar un censo de todo el mundo habitado. Este primer censo se realizó mientras Cirenio era gobernador de Siria. Todos iban para inscribirse en el censo, cada uno a su ciudad. Entonces José también subió desde Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David que se llama Belén, porque el era de la casa y de la familia de David, a inscribirse con María, su esposa, quien estaba encinta. Aconteció que, mientras ellos estaban allí, se cumplieron los días de su alumbramiento, y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito. Le envolvió en pañales, y le acostó en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.

Narrator Now the birth of Jesús the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,

Angel “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Narrator When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations with her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus.

Narrator In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to be registered. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

Narrador: Había pastores en aquella región, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre su rebaño. Y un ángel del Señor se presentó ante ellos, y la gloria del Señor los rodeó de resplandor; y temieron con gran temor. Pero el ángel les dijo:

Ángel: No teman, porque aquí les traigo buenas nuevas de gran gozo, …que será para todo el pueblo: que hoy, en la ciudad de David, les ha nacido un Salvador, que es Cristo el Señor. Y esto les servirá de señal: Hallarán al niño envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre.

Narrador: De repente apareció con el ángel una multitud de las huestes celestiales, que alababan a Dios y decían: ¡Gloria a Dios en las Alturas, y en la tierra paz entre los hombres de Buena voluntad!

Narradora: Aconteció que, cuando los ángeles se fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores se decían unos a otros:

Pastor: Pasemos ahora mismo hasta Belén y veamos esto que ha sucedido, y que el Señor nos ha dado a conocer.

Narradora: Fueron de prisa y hallaron a María y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre. Al verle, dieron a conocer lo que les había sido dicho acerca de este niño. Todos los que oyeron se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les dijeron; pero María guardaba todas estas cosas, meditándolas en su corazón. Los pastores se volvieron, glorificando y alabando a Dios por todo lo que habían oído y visto, tal como les había sido dicho.

Narrator In that region there were shepherds living in the fields keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them,

Angel ‘Do not be afraid; for see - I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.’

Narrator And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, “glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among those he favors.”

Narrator When the angels had left them an. gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another,

Shepherd Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place,. which the Lord has made known to us.’

Narrator So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child; and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

Narrador: Jesús nació en Belén de Judea, en días del rey Herodes. Y unos magos vinieron del oriente a Jerusalén, preguntando:

Tres Reyes: ¿Donde esta el rey de los Judíos, que ha nacido? Porque hemos visto su estrella en el oriente y hemos venido para adorarle.

Narrador: Cuando el rey Herodes oyó esto, se turbó, y toda Jerusalén con él. Y habiendo convocado a todos los principales sacerdotes y a los escribas del pueblo, les preguntó

Herodes ¿donde había de nacer el Cristo?

Tres Reyes En Belén de Judea, porque así está escrito por el profeta: Y tu, Belén, en la tierra de Judá, de ninguna manera eres la más pequeña entre los gobernadores de Judá; porque de ti saldrá un gobernante que pastoreará a mi pueblo Israel.

Narrador: Entonces Herodes llamó en secreto a los magos e indagó de ellos el tiempo de la aparición de la estrella. Y enviándolos a Belén, les dijo:

Herodes: Vayan allá y averigüen todo lo que pueden acerca de este niño. Tan pronto lo encuentren, avísenme, para que yo también vaya y le adore.

Narrador: Ellos, después de oír al rey, se fueron. Y la estrella que habían visto en el oriente iba delante de ellos, hasta que llegó y se detuvo sobre donde estaba el niño. Al ver la estrella, se regocijaron con gran alegría. Cuando entraron en la casa, vieron al niño con María su madre, y postrándose le adoraron. Entonces abrieron sus tesoros y le ofrecieron presentes de oro, incienso y mirra. Pero advertidos por revelación en sueños que no volviesen a Herodes, regresaron a su país por otro camino.

Narrator In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking,

Three Kings ‘Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.’

Narrator When king Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; and calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them

Herod where is the Messiah to be born.

Three Kings ‘In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet: “And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people of Israel.”

Narrator Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying,

Herod “Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage.’

Narrator When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage.
