Remember that approval from the ARC Committee is required prior to the addition or removal of trees. • Have your trees and shrubs professionally pruned, fix brown spots in the lawn and remove and replace diseased plants. • Early morning is considered the best time to water. e wind is usually calm and the temperature is low so less water is lost to evaporation. Watering in the late evening can cause the lawn to stay wet all night, making it more susceptible to disease. • Grass that appears to be dying may be caused by a lack of water, fungus or chinch bugs. Consult your professional landscaper or local garden center for solutions. Homeowners who want help with their yard should seek an evaluation by a professional lawn or landscape firm. A professional can assess the health of the lawn, plants, trees and shrubs and offer recommendations for improvements. Lakemont Living Introduction

As responsible adults, caring neighbors and concerned citizens it is our duty to protect our home values, help maintain our beautiful community and get involved!! If you’ve ever complained about the weeds growing over the sidewalk of your neighbor’s yard or thought someone’s landscaping deserved to be recognized for Yard of the Month. WE NEED YOU!! Become a volunteer and help to keep Lakemont beautiful by reporting Deed Restriction violations and have the pleasure of making someone’s day by rewarding them Yard of the Month. Every neighborhood within Lakemont has a Yard of the Month recipient each month so there are 11 proud homeowners who get to bask in the glory for all of their hard yard work; at least until the next month rolls around!

April Showers Bring May flowers in Lakemont!Spring is in full bloom and so is our landscaping. As the

thermometer slowly inches up it’s important to maintain your lawn and flower beds so Lakemont continues to be a desirable place to live. Here are a few quick yard maintenance tips:

Fertilization: Spring is a crucial time to fertilize because it replenishes the food reserves your yard draws from while dormant in the winter and fuels grass’ rapid growth phase.

Weed control: Apply a pre-emergent weed killer on lawns to prevent grassy weeds from germinating. Spring broadleaf weeds like dandelions, clovers and plantains, are best prevented by maintaining a proper mowing height and fertilization.

Mowing: Contrary to popular belief, setting your mower at a very low height can actually increase weeds by exposing the soil surface to sunlight and removing stored nutrients in leaf blades. Warm season grasses, like Bermuda, Zoysia, St. Augustine and centipede, should be kept at 1.5 to 2.5 inches tall.

Flower Beds: Choose a primary color scheme, consisting of two or three colors that look good together. Mimic the surrounding landscape, using different types of plants to add dimension. Put the lowest plants in front and the tallest plants in back. You’ll get a better view of each plant and it will have a three-dimensional look instead of looking flat. Planting them in groups instead of rows will look more natural too.

Lawn MaintenanceHarsh temperatures this winter may have left many lawns looking

worse for ware. Despite these temperatures, many residents have continued to maintain the community standards with consistent attention to their lawns. Conversely, there are many lawns that could use further attention. Whether you hire a professional or have the skills and tools to do it yourself, here are some tips to improve your lawn and landscape:• Weeding, mowing and edging regularly, planting beds and mulching

go a long way toward improving a yard’s look.• Planting colorful annuals in beds or pots around the house and patio

makes a house look well cared for.• For added interest, plant new trees and shrubs to create focus areas.

Remember that approval from the ARC Committee is required prior to the addition or removal of trees.

• Have your trees and shrubs professionally pruned, fix brown spots in the lawn and remove and replace diseased plants.

• Early morning is considered the best time to water. The wind is usually calm and the temperature is low so less water is lost to evaporation. Watering in the late evening can cause the lawn to stay wet all night, making it more susceptible to disease.

• Grass that appears to be dying may be caused by a lack of water, fungus or chinch bugs. Consult your professional landscaper or local garden center for solutions.Homeowners who want help with their yard should seek an evaluation

Effective immediately, the Association has implemented a notice period of five (5) day for unkempt lawns to be brought into compliance. Industrial Light and Magic sure knows how to make a great first impression. “Rango,” the first-ever animated feature created by the George Lucas company, is an impressive adventure film set in the Old West featuring a scrawny pet chameleon as it’s courageous hero.

When Rango (Johnny Depp), an aspiring thespian, strolls into the small town of Dirt after landing in the desert, he is given the chance to start on a clean slate and become whoever he wants in his new surroundings. No one in Dirt knows who he is, so he conjures up a few lies and jumps into character as a mysterious gunslinger who isn’t afraid of anything the big, bad desert has to offer, including the villainous Rattlesnake Jake (Bill Nighy).

Reminiscent of the storyline in the 1986 comedy “The Three Amigos,” the towns people, made up of some bizarre looking creatures, accept Rango into their dried-up community and make him sheriff when he accidentally kills a terrorizing hawk. As sheriff, it’s now up to Rango to somehow bring water to the thirsty people of Dirt before more of them pack up and take off in search of the one thing they need to survive the desert heat.

Johnny Depp voices the scaly, heroic title character in "Rango."rango

Starring: Johnny Depp,Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin

Directed by: Gore Verbinski (“Pirates of the Caribbean”)

Written by: John Logan(“Gladiator”)

As an animated spaghetti Western, “Rango” takes its original narrative and sets it on a dark and dangerous path most cartoons would never tread. Leave it to director Gore Verbinski, who teamed up with Depp in the first two “Pirates” movies, to find inspiration from Western classics like those from director Sergio Leone. Along with exquisite imagery and witty dialogue from the title character, “Rango” is an imaginative and sort of hallucinatory tribute (see if you can spot the “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” reference) to a genre most kids aren’t exposed to nearly enough. With a lizard as the lead, this is as kid-friendly as it’s going to get.
