ayurveda in the GardenThis class will cover the fundamentals of the 5,000-year-old Indian tradition of Ayurveda (ayur=life; veda=wisdom), which includes using herbs, nutrition, cleansing, bodywork, and more to balance the mind, body, and spirit. Part 1: Together, we will go a multi-sensory exploration of the healing properties of seasonal Indian herbs and spices. We’ll learn about ayurvedic plants and harvest them from Olbrich’s collection to make a digestive tea. You will learn the beneftis of and how to craft your own Ayurvedic beverages.

Part 2: We will learn about vegetables commonly used in Ayurvedic cuisine, their benefits, characteristics, and cultivation. In this class, you will learn how to take better composed photographs using your cell phone and work around some of the limitations that go with cell phones. We will also cover a few editing concepts to enhance your photos. community Kaleidoscope WorkshopJoin in this unique opportunity to make a community contribution to this year’s GLEAM exhibit. Workshop participants will assemble a total of 25 kinetic butterfly sculptures to be featured as part of Skunk Control’s Kaleidoscope Aflutter light installation. Participants will learn how color can be created via structure as in nature and then construct an 8” butterfly using prefabricated materials. The butterflies will project colored shadows across the Gardens’ landscape during the daytime through the reflection of light created by the specialized optical filters used in their wings. At night the butterflies will become fluorescent with the use of black LED lighting. Participants will be able to retrieve their butterfly creations after the exhibit – the week of November 9.
