“A L I V E A N D A C T I V E ”The Year of Saint Matthew

The 12TH Sunday in year25.06.17.

(Sunday Readings: of year A : Breviary: Week iv)

THIS SUNDAY’S MASSScripture: Jeremiah 20 : 10-13

Psalm 68

R /: In your great love, answer me, O God

It is for you that I suffer taunts, that shame covers my face, that I have become a stranger to my brothers,an alien to my own mother’s sons.I burn with zeal for your houseand taunts against you fall on me.

This is my prayer to you,my prayer for your favour. In your great love, answer me, O God,with your help that never fails:Lord, answer, for your love is kind;in your compassion, turn towards me.

The poor when they see it will be gladand God-seeking hearts will revive;for the Lord listens to the needyand does not spurn his servants in their chains.Let heaven and earth give him praise, the sea and all its living creatures.

Paul to the Romans 5 : 12-15Matthew 10 : 26-33

Intercession : We pray,Response : Father, hear us in our need.

Two students were talking about food.‘I’ve got a cookery book,’ said one. ‘But I’ve never

been able to use it.’‘Why not?’ asked the other. ‘Were the recipes to

complicated?’‘Not really, but each one began the same way : take a

clean dish…..’

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^A drunk phoned the police to report that thieves had been in his car. ‘They’ve stolen the dashboard, the steering wheel, the brake pedal, even the accelerator,’ he moanedFive minutes later the phone at the police station rang again. It was the same drunk. ‘Sorry,’ he slurred. I just realized I got in the back seat by mistake.’

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^A son made a long-distance phone call to his mother.‘How are you doing, Mam?’‘Not too good. I’ve been very weak.’‘Why have you been weak?’‘Because I haven’t eaten in thirty-four days.’‘Why on earth haven’t you been eating?’‘Because I didn’t want my mouth to be filled with food when you called.’

CONFIRMATION – SAINT MARY’SFRIDAY 30th JUNE 7.00p.m.

Sometimes I look into my soul and see I am lacking something which stops me from being fully human, halts my relationship with the flock entrusted into my care. What is lacking can be restored by the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. These make us fully human, willing to assist those who cry for help. The Parish of All Saints cries out for the Gifts of the Spirit which are freely given through the Sacrament of Confirmation. Friday next (30th June) a number of young people will receive these gifts which will give them the courage to proclaim like the Apostles did at that first Pentecost their love of the risen Lord, the Church and their neighbour. Mass will be celebrated by the Archbishop who will confirm the Sacrament of Confirmation, and I invite as many of you as possible to attend this service as these young people are the Church of today and the hope for future of All Saints Parish.

SAINT PETER & SAINT PAULTHURSDAY - HOLY DAY OF

OBLIGATION.

I look at the clergy within the Archdiocese and each one is different. Each in his own way has been called to preach the Gospel, to proclaim the Word of God and to lead by example, God’s faithful people.

Some of them are academically gifted, some are great preachers other administrators, and me, gifted with a sense of humour and willing to be an itinerant worker, wherever there is a need for the Gospel to be heard and preached.

Thursday will see the day when we remember two men, one being Paul, a Jew, a man who could and did discuss theology with those who wished to listen. The other, a worker, a fisherman. This being Peter who brought to the masses his experience of the man Jesus, who eventually dropped to his knees and proclaimed “that Jesus is the Christ.
