HeadsContinued from A3whether it be that they areunemployed or underem-ployed, to better under-stand their situation. With the help of othermembers of the founda-tion and Jack and JulieCarlisle, owners of localrestaurant Jack's WoodFired Oven and a sponsorof the poster competition,Sun presented the compe-tition to students at LoganHigh School on Monday.Sun said Logan Highis one of the schools inthe valley to make theposter competition a classproject.By working with othersand stepping out of theircomfort zone to work onposters for the competi-tion, students will notonly practice their art butalso develop qualities andskills that will give theman advantage over otherapplicants when theyapply forjobs, Sun said.Students will also acquireskills that are required tosucceed at work, she said.Sun added that thesearen't just skills studentsneed to have. She saidshe's hoping to raise com-munity awareness, aswell. The deadline for posterentries is April 5. Sun saidthe winning team's posterwill be used to advertisethe Little BloomsburyFoundation 2010 artexhibit, "Shared Prosper-

ity for the Employment-Challenged."Sun said that at thefoundation, they are hop-ing this creative outletwill raise awareness ofsome of the requirementsof a work place - teamwork, adaptability andsocial skills - and alsoteach participants how tobetter handle those situ-ations.Sun said she thinksthese lessons are some-thing that the educationsystem is missing."When you don'trequire them to workwith others, when youdon't require them tothink outside the box andstill get anA, their mindis programmed to thinkin a very rigid mannerand they would not becompetitive in the work-place," she said.Sun said succeeding inart and employment alsorequires some risk."To be entrepreneurial,to be creative, you haveto take risks. You have tothink outside of the boxbecause without takingrisks, you can't grow,"Sun said.To illustrate this point,Sun had the Carlislesspeak to the students.Jack and Julie shared theirstory ofrecently open-ing an eatery in Logan. They told students thatcreativity, teamwork anda positive attitude are keyto success, whether it bein seeking employment orowning a business.

    During the presenta-tion, students discussed

the similarities betweenart, employment andunemployment. Theywere also led in roleplay activities in whichthey would pretend to besomeone looking for ajob.Jack said he under-

stands Sun's vision- taking unemploymentout ofthe box and alsogetting students excited toparticipate in the contest."I like the concept," hesaid.Sun said her messageto students is to "takeyour creativity outside ofyour art class to all partsofyour life to be cre-ative, you know, becausecreativity is competitive-ness."For more informationabout the Little Blooms-bury Foundation postercompetition or the com-ing art show, visit http://liulebloomsbury.blogspot.com.
