Fellow Cattlemen,It’s hard to believe that a year has gone by since I wrote this for our sale a year ago. What an unprecedented year in the cattle business it has been! Never have we seen feeder and live cattle prices soar to these levels and the cowman be in such a profi table position. It is truly safe to say that as long as the weather supports it, expansion of the beef industry is under way. Just as it was with $8 corn, $230 feeder cattle have us searching for the very best genetics and most performance we can fi nd. Being that the beef cattle business is so much more about longevity than grain, the convenience traits such as calving ease, reproductive effi ciency, and maternal ability can’t be overlooked simply for performance.

As you read through this year’s catalog, you may notice a fairly substantial change in some of the EPDs over previous years. The Shorthorn breed took a monumental step forward and combined their performance system into the MultiBreed Genetic Evaluation. This will allow our numbers to be compared in the same pool and on the same plane as with breeds such as Simmental, Red Angus, Gelbvieh and a growing number of others. We feel that this eliminates much confusion over different EPD systems and how to compare different breeds of cattle. It will also allow for a full EPD profi le for our composite genetics. In this new era, our cattle have stacked up extremely well, showing fantastic calving ease, moderate growth, and excellent marbling. All of these EPDs are backed up by many years of actual performance numbers suggesting the same thing. As you look through the bull offering, over 82% are in the breed’s top 15 % for CED and MCE, 76% for BW, and 80% for $BMI.

As in the past, the Spring bulls and heifers have not been ultrasounded, but will be by sale day. Please check in at www.LovingFarms.com as we will post this and other sale information as it becomes available. By the time you receive this catalog, videos will also be posted on our website. The sale will be broadcast live on DVAuctions.com again, so if you are unable to attend this will be a good option, please make sure to register in advance. Cowboy Auction ProcedureThe bid-off will start at 1:00 PM CST, March 7. Bulls will have a starting bid of $3,000 and heifers will begin at $2,000. At the time of the bid-off, each individual lot will be announced and all who wish to bid on that lot will be asked to raise their bidder number. Each bidder will be “in” until he chooses to step out and withdraw. Each $100 increment will be announced, and the bidders will be given time to consider whether they are “in” or “out,” before the next increment is announced. When only one bidder remains, they will have “won” that lot.

Terms and ConditionsTerms of the sale are cash or check. Payment must be made to the clerk immediately following the sale and before the cattle are removed from the sale facility. Purchasers or their representatives must sign the bill of sale prior to leaving the sale site.

LiabilityEach bull will be at the buyer’s risk as soon as sold, but will be cared for by the sellers for a reasonable amount of time. Neither the owners, employees, nor any other affi liated personnel can be responsible for any accidents,

but they will make every effort to provide for the safety and comfort of those attending.

DeliveryAll lots picked up on sale day will receive a discount of $100/lot. All lots not taken sale day will be kept free until April 1, 2015. Delivery can be arranged and will be made at the most reasonable cost.

Genetic TestingAll lots have been tested for all known genetic conditions and are free unless otherwise noted.

Breeding GuaranteeAll bulls are guaranteed for the fi rst breeding season, as defi ned by the fi rst 90 days following turnout. If a replacement bull is available, he will be provided or if the buyer prefers, credit towards one bull will be given in the following sale, less salvage value of the injured bull. All injured bulls must be diagnosed and documented by a veterinarian. Please notify us as soon as possible should injury occur and prior to the injured bull being sold for salvage. All claims must be made by September 1, 2015.

$CEZ – ($ Calving Ease) This index assumes a bull will only be mated to heifers, not cows. The potential profi tability of the sire is measured by the incidence of live calves at birth. Moderate mature size is also emphasized in the index, but performance is not a priority.
