Short titles with a red background to make them stand out unlike the black ones.

It is clear that this is the main feature as there is a medium close up picture included along with the name of the celebrity underneath.

The use of a list with the top bands, this could grab the attention of many people so they could see where their favourite band is in the listing.

The genre is probably aimed at people of many ages. The strongest colour theme is on the front cover as it is bold colours to stand out making it appear relevant to younger people.

Q magazine analysis:

All the pages for Q magazine are packed and colourful this catches the reader attention instantaneously. The style is a range of indie and rock music and there target audience are rock and indie fans which range around many ages and genders.

The brand identity is shown on every page of the magazine with a logo. The purpose of the magazine is to entertain and inform about music in certain genres.

I think this magazine is one of the best I have analysed as it has a lot to analyse and talk about as it uses a lot of techniques such as: plugs, banners, sub-headings, puffs, pictures, taglines, quotes and many others in order to present the magazine in the best way to the audience.

Page 10: Magazine cover contents dps 2ND ONE

Mixmag: front coverTop strip: is also tag line of the magazine and give a short explanation what the magazine is about.

Masthead: is bold and stands out and grabs the attention of the audience.

Plug: the plug gets the attention of the audience and draws the reader to this area of the magazine.

Colour scheme: The colour here is also the same to the masthead linking the colours initially on the front cover.

Appearance: Cartoon instead of an actual picture of someone to give the magazine a modern look.

Small print text compared to the rest of the page showing it isn’t maybe as important as it is in the bottom left third of the magazine.

Barcode: it is a common convention yet again in the bottom right third of the magazine out of the way.

Simplistic and spacious cover. The use of bright bold florescent colours to get the attention of the audience quickly and draw them to the magazine. There isn’t much going on the there isn't much space which could make the magazine appear the be boring or less interesting.

Page 11: Magazine cover contents dps 2ND ONE

Mixmag: contentsList of all the pages and what is on them. These are smaller comparing to pages 108, 72, 62 and 68 as they are main feature pages.

Masthead: the font is followed through font all over this page, numbers and title are the same urban looking font.

Colour scheme: Bright stand out picture to add a burst of colour to the plain black background.

The use of the magazine logo is in the top right third of the page along with the front cover so you know what issue it is.

The contents is continued down the opposite side of the page to make it more symmetrical.

Plug and puff using the word ‘free’ and an alliteration of the words ‘mix major’ this yet again draws in the attention of the reader.

Date central to the page giving more information to the reader.

Page 12: Magazine cover contents dps 2ND ONE

Mixmag: three page spreadBig block text of the featured story. Very small black font showing there is a lot of information and in detail.

Small block of text with a bit of bold font to make it stand out. With possibly key information.

Main image: the picture of the person the story is about to give more information for the reader. Takes up a lot of the page showing she is powerful and important.

Title in an odd place but the white contrasts and stands out on top of the black of her t-shirt.

Sub- images: Bright picture to add more colour to the plainness of the white background and small black text.

Quote extract from the magazine in bold to stand out symbolising it is a key part to the magazine.

Page 13: Magazine cover contents dps 2ND ONE

The purpose of this magazine is to inform the reader of modern pop music and club music. The logo appears on the contents and the front cover but none of the other pages. The magazine doesn’t follow a certain theme through the whole of the magazine as it is bright and bold on the first page, dark and grunge on the second and on the three page spread is sparse and white.

I dislike this about the magazine as it has no consistency through all the pages and could appear to be taken from a range of magazines. The genre is probably aimed at younger people who go to clubs and parties as that is their aim. The layout is very different per page and has a different theme per page. The strongest colour theme is on the front cover as it is neon coloured to stand out making it appear relevant to younger people.
