“No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” – Albert Einstein

MY FAVOURITE QUOTE:

My music selection is quite eclectic. Right now, I’m favouring rhythm and blues and big band music (Linda Ronstadt, Nelson Riddle Orchestra). Next week? Perhaps it will be old-school rock & roll or even top 40!

ON MY iPod:

i’m currently reading Emotional Equations – The Simple Truth for Creating Happiness and Success by Chip Conley. it is an easy-to-read guide that helps you identify, name, and manage emotions as well as the relationship between

them. They often identify a simple mathematical formula that can be applied to help you – i.e. growth = Change – Resistance.

My hubby – Sunny. We have been together a long time and are almost joined at the hip. We share everything – built a home and raised a family that we are very proud of. He is a great support and friend. And most of all… he makes me laugh!

ON MY BEDSIDE TABLE:

I do a little hiking, a little yoga, and most of all, a lot of laughing! Staying mentally and emotionally fit is as important as keeping your body fit. Every day I make sure to find pleasure in life and it is the simple things that bring a smile to my face – like riding a scooter to work. AND I make sure I laugh every day… it keeps the doctor away!

STAYING FIT:

AT MY SIDE:

MY FAVOURITE DISH:

I can’t get enough of my garden-fresh zucchinis. I love them baked with fresh herbs and tomatoes. I love them stuffed with rice and olives. I love them anyway I can get them!

Consultants across Canada share many amazing traits. You’re all independent and creative people who aspire to inspire. You connect with others to make your communities better and share Epicure with Canadians. Check out the extraordinary Consultants featured in our May Kudos.

THE RIGHT

Ingredients

Q: Are there any special events you plan to take part in, or any twists you’ll be adding to your Parties this fall?

A: I am a great believer in the KISS principle (Keep it simple, stupid!), so my fall Parties will continue to showcase our core line with just a few “embellishments” from the fantastic new fall products that will be available. All this while keeping the evenings brief, fun, and light-hearted. I am also part of a team of three direct sellers that organize an annual home-based and local business gift market, in which we raise food, funds, and awareness for local food banks.

Q: How do you get future bookings at your Tasting Parties?

A: I keep the Parties simple, quick and fun, and drop in plenty of booking seeds! I’ve tried additional incentives and booking games, but keeping things straightforward and simple has been the winning method for more solid bookings that hold – and my sponsorships have also definitely improved as a result. People don’t want to do something that looks too complicated!

Q: How do you share the Epicure opportunity?

A: At Parties, I just share my 30-second commercial and my enthusiasm for a great product – that’s pretty much it! I always make sure that I share all four ways to enjoy Epicure (shop, save, profit, and raise), because you can never predict who is going to be interested in any of them. I am also a huge fan of social media. I love finding and sharing food facts on my Facebook page, and my social networking has resulted in both Party bookings and a few additions to my Team! The phone and Parties are still the best ways to share, but social media can be a great help if done right.

Q: What have you learned from your Epicure business?

A: Don’t take things personally! People aren’t necessarily saying “no” to you – it just may not be the right time and everybody has ups and downs, at every level. It’s all about your attitude and what you choose to do during the down times.

LOOKING FORWARD to a

FABULOUS FALL

Staying at home with children is something that many working mothers dream of, although many Canadian women just don’t see this as a realistic goal. But Leader Tiffany Schellenberg (and mother of three girls) knows that it’s possible.

“I started with Epicure in September 2007 after my maternity leave with my first daughter. Epicure has enabled me to stay at home and raise my three daughters. What first attracted me to Epicure was the freedom to stay home with my children and work when it worked for me, not when someone else told me I had to.”

Although many Consultants may be hesitant to talk to others about the business opportunity, Tiffany is a firm believer in sharing Epicure freely with just about anyone she comes in contact with. “I have learned that you can’t judge a book by its cover, and you never know what people need when you first meet them. You never know who might be interested in joining. I know that, for myself, I would never have thought about becoming a Consultant if I had not been at a Party where someone started talking about it.”

As summer comes to a close, Tiffany is looking forward to discovering new fall products at National Conference and coming home inspired to hold some fun theme Parties. “During back-to-school season, everyone’s life gets busy. I find that doing Silent Parties with Hostesses is a great start to the month, and then I book

live Tasting Parties toward the end of the month when families are settling into a routine.”

Tiffany gets lots of help from her three daughters and her husband. Her Epicure business is a family affair and a wonderful example of independent entrepreneurship for her children. “My family comes first. I fit my Epicure Parties and meetings in during my spare time. My two older daughters love helping me unpack orders and put the cardboard boxes in the blue box. My husband helps me as well by doing deliveries and helping to carry heavy boxes when I set up at trade shows. My family is very supportive and my daughters love earning money for their piggy banks by helping when mommy goes out to work.”

EPICURE SELECTIONS® August 2012

I’m super excited about the NEW Collapsible Silicone Strainer. It’s small and easy to store – perfect to wash berries right away for quick eating. You just have to make sure some make it home for pie baking.

My family and I spend a lot of time camping, boating, swimming, and sailing. After a busy day outdoors, it’s so easy to whip up Summer Berry Chocolate Pudding. I love to garnish with summer berries. When friends drop by for an impromptu BBQ, they think I’ve been cooking all day!

Epicure products make entertaining family and friends outdoors easy. Summer Berry Fruit Dip Mix is a favourite. I can make ahead a quick and fabulous fruity dessert, topping it with local berries of all kinds.

The NEW 4-Cup Prep Bowls are ideal for canning and preserving prep. I also love to make pickled beets and dills once we move into the fall – there is much to be said for enjoying the bounty of summer all year long!

Outdoor summer dining is a huge part of my family’s summer routine and I love canning and preserving – strawberry and raspberry jam are the family favourites.

My family loves berry picking. We usually meet up with friends (along with their kids and mine). We keep a special pail in the trunk once blackberries are in season. You never know when you’ll hit a berry goldmine!

3 Ways with summer Berry Fruit Dip Mix

Summer Berry crème Brûlée

Heat 2 cups (500 ml) whipping cream with 1/3 cup (80 ml) Summer Berry Fruit Dip Mix. In a bowl, whisk 6 large egg yolks with 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla Extract. Gradually whisk in warm cream. Divide between 4 crème brûlée dishes. Drop a few fresh raspberries onto each dish. Place dishes in a roasting pan or deep baking sheet and carefully pour enough boiling water around dishes to come half way up sides. Bake at 300° F (150° C) until set, about 30 minutes. Cool, then sprinkle tops with sugar. Broil or use a crème brûlée blow torch to caramelize sugar.

Summer Berry Yogurt parfaits

Spoon 2 Tbsp (30 ml) prepared Summer Berry Fruit Dip into a glass. Scatter a few blueberries overtop. Dollop with ¼ cup (60 ml) yogurt. Scatter a few raspberries overtop. Finish with 2–3 Tbsp (30–45 ml) prepared Summer Berry Fruit Dip. Garnish with fresh berries and mint.

Summer Berry Bread pudding

In a very large bowl, whisk 3 eggs with 2 1/2 cups (625 ml) milk. Whisk in 1/3 cup (80 ml) Summer Berry Fruit Dip Mix. Lightly butter a casserole dish. Cut 12 slices of bread (crust on) in half diagonally. Working with one piece at a time, dunk in egg mixture, then layer in dish. Pour excess milk mixture overtop. Bake at 325° F (160° C) until set, about 40 minutes. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup (125 ml) fresh raspberries or blueberries.

Q: What do you love most about Epicure products?

A: That they’re healthy, and everyone in the family loves them! My Customers love to share ideas and recipes with me, and they tell me about how the whole family gets involved in choosing spices and planning meals together. Kids come up to me to tell me their favourite product. I have teens who purchase Mulling Spices or their favourite dip, all on their own. Husbands send their wish lists to me through their wives, and my client list of single men is growing faster than ever before. I get so excited that more people are looking for healthy choices!

Q: How did you decide to get started with Epicure?

A: Originally, I was just looking to replace onion soup mix with a low-sodium alternative and find other low-sodium products for my new husband. We enjoyed the spices so much that I signed up when we moved to Fort McMurray, just so we could supply ourselves. A friend of mine wanted to do a Party, so I gave it a go. The Party was easier to do than I expected. Before I knew it, Customers were stopping me in the grocery store to give me their Epicure lists!

Q: Any favourite booking tips you’d like to share?

A: I suggest that groups of friends team up and have Parties every three-to-four months, changing the Hostess each time so that each one gets a chance to earn Hostess benefits. This allows them to refill their pantries and try new products.

Q: How are you planning to share the Epicure opportunity through the back-to-school season and beyond? What advice will you give your Team for sponsoring new Consultants?

A: Fort McMurray has many unique economic factors which can reduce the need or want to start a home-based business. Families may have tenants in their homes, spouses on rotating schedules, large numbers of children – things that make it tough to consider adding a business to their already busy schedules. Some of them are so new in town that they don’t know anyone. I present the Epicure opportunity as a way to supply their friends and family with great products, and as a method for meeting new friends. I tell them that once they get their Customer base established, the products will keep selling themselves.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your experience with Epicure.

A: I started in October 2010, and it has been an amazing experience so far. I’ve met a lot of new people and built relationships with my Team members. I went to Conference in Montreal last year and my business really started to pick up then!

Q: What have you learned from your business so far?

A: I’ve learned a lot, but the thing I really focus on is always to ASK. It doesn’t cost anything to ask, and 90% of the time, if you don’t ask for a booking or ask about the business opportunity, the Customers or Hostesses won’t approach you. Also, picking up the phone and following up is really the key, and building a big list of contacts.

Q: What first attracted you to Epicure?

A: I’ve always been passionate about health and nutrition, so that’s what got me hooked. And the 3 Onion Dip Mix, of course!

Q: How do you get future bookings at your Tasting Parties?

A: I always focus on telling everyone what my Hostess is going to get for free. I talk about the monthly specials, the Hostess Benefits Program, and the $20 Booking Bonus Certificate. I talk about the Multi-Purpose Pot and the Top 6 Collection, and how easy it is to get it all at half price. I have three hot dates for booking at every Party. If they choose one of those dates, they get a little extra prize at their Party. I also use ballots for door prizes and keep them for future reference.

Q: How do you share the Epicure opportunity?

A: Start off by telling a little bit about my story, and how Epicure could help them make extra income at the end of the month. I talk about my upcoming HAWAII trip!

Q: What is your next big goal for your business, and how do you plan to achieve it?

A: I always try to have 8–10 Parties each month and 2–3 new Team members or more! My next goal is obviously to be a Senior Leader by August 2012, a Business Development Leader by October, and a Director by December 2012. I tend to DREAM BIG! But I know that, with hard work and determination, it will happen. I will keep doing what I do and work hard with my Team and potential Leaders!

Cheryl’s 101: Deep sponsoring thoughts

Cheryl BrandtDirector, sales & Leadership

Development

Finding prospective new Consultants to help build your business is simple. We are surrounded every day by people who love food, enjoy meeting new people, and are interested in earning a few extra dollars each month. The difficult part can be recognizing that almost everyone can benefit from becoming an Epicure Consultant and sharing the opportunity.

1. Don’t pre-judge. Simply share the facts and let them decide. It’s not up to us to decide for them.

2. Everyone has different qualities. Don’t look for perfect. Nobody is. Acknowledge and embrace the qualities each person has and the rest will come.

3. Share with everyone; don’t try to sponsor everyone. There is a difference.

A focus on sharing considers the needs of others. Never sponsor with the idea “what’s in it for me.” Be willing to help people with what you have to offer just like someone offered it to you.

4. Don’t wait for someone to approach you. Nine times out of 10, they won’t.

5. Sponsoring doesn’t only happen at parties. New Team members are everywhere you go. Just listen!

6. Listen to understand and share how Epicure can fill the need. If someone is in need of extra income or needs to find a job, chances are they won’t be that interested in hearing about lavish trips and diamonds. Listen with your heart!

7. Anytime you find the qualities we look for in a Consultant, tell them how

they would benefit from Epicure.

8. present the opportunity as the business it is and the career they can develop. If you see this opportunity as a business, they will too.

9. Take with you to show them how fun, simple, and profitable a business with Epicure can be.

10. Listen and look out for those who love every product, can’t afford much, are looking for a job, bored, wanting something to do, or want to stay home with their children. Don’t overlook those who have careers already. You never know where someone is at in their life. And remember, if you don’t ask, it’s an automatic “no.”

growing Your Business in Your Backyard ideas for increasing results!

When growing your business, think outside the box. How we market our business is changing dramatically and many traditional methods are no longer relevant. Meeting new people and word of mouth are still the most effective ways to promote your business, and with the boom in social media, it is easier then ever before!

Education & Development

Your Professional ImageYour image is your Epicure billboard. Be sure to make conscious choices about the messages your “billboard” is conveying. Make sure it’s in line with your professional goals and desires.

Your appearance is your message to others about who you are and what you stand for. The way you look reflects your attitude, self-image, confidence, and state of mind. A strong, confident presence is the key to an effective image. When you look good, you feel good, and others will be drawn to you. Look in the mirror and ask, “Does this look like someone I would do business with?”

Talk It UpElegant summer entertaining tip: Instead of logs, press Corn Butters (P. 23) into Prep Bowls, refrigerate, and portion out with Epicure’s Stainless Steel Mini Portion Scoop. Portion control never looked so pretty!

Health Benefit: We tend to slather corn in butter. Instead, try and elevate taste with seasonings and maybe even use a little less. Great taste and lots of flavour!

Before the party: Prepare 1–3 logs of Epicure’s Summer Toppers Corn Butters (P. 23) – remember, variety is key to tasting! Slice logs into coins, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate. Freeze 1–2 cups (250–500 ml) of frozen corn niblets in Epicure’s Rectangular Silicone Steamer.

At the party: Microwave corn in the Steamer. Divide hot corn between bowls and toss with 1–2 coins of the different corn butters. Portion seasoned corn into sample cups for tasting. If sampling just one butter, toss right in the Steamer!

100 MILE DIET? Try 50 metres!Epicure’s own Farmer John is back at Home Office selling fresh, locally grown produce to Home Team Members. We know it’s local because we have been watching it grow from our office windows! From home- grown garden lettuce to humungous bulbs of Russian Red garlic, all these veggies are helping HTMs remember their conveniently forgotten New Year’s resolutions to eat healthy.

Fun fact: We use as many locally grown fruits and vegetables in our recipe photos as we can, making the food all the better to eat afterward!

MOVING UP to Feed CanadaDuring the Moving Up Tour, we asked Consultants to bring a food donation to the event for the local food bank. To start things off, we sent 12 packages to food banks across Canada, containing 10 each of Epicure’s Marinara Sauce Mix, Seasoning for Mac & Cheese, French Onion Soup Mix, Cha-Cha Chili Recipe Seasoning Mix, and Taco Seasoning.

That’s nothing compared to the contributions made by our generous Consultants! Together we’ve donated 4,349 lbs (1,973 kgs) of food! Way to make our journey across Canada count for fellow Canadians in need!

Fun fact: The total weight of the food donated is greater than 11,597 jars of our Summer Berry Fruit Dip Mix! Imagine 11,597 bottles of fruit dip stacked on top of one another. The stack would be over twice the height of the CN Tower or just 100 m short of reaching the top of Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver, BC.
