Diana Award Chief Executive awarded OBE in Queen’s Birthday Honours

Maggie Turner, the Diana Award’s Chief Executive, has been awarded an OBE in the 2010Queen’s birthday honours list.

Maggie said: ‘I am overwhelmed and humbled. I accept this award on behalf of and inrecognition of the amazing and selfless contribution our 30,000 Diana Award holders maketo the communities in which they live. They inspire me every day and this award is for us all – and will help us build on our shared successes.’

Mrs. Turner has been awarded an OBE for services to young people, in which she hasworked tirelessly for 20 years.

Aaron Ross, Chair of Trustees for the Diana Award, said: “We are thrilled that Maggie hasbeen recognised for the very same qualities that our award holders display – selflessness,commitment and courage. The OBE recognises the immense contribution Maggie and herstaff at the Diana Award have made in shining a light on the talented and dynamic youngpeople who give of themselves so generously.”

Ben Bilverstone, 21 Diana Award holder and Trustee said: “I am delighted Maggie has been

awarded an OBE, I cannot think of a better candidate to receive an OBE, Maggie'scommitment, passion and drive for recognising the good in young people is outstanding.Maggie has encouraged and supported myself and so many award holders, she enables usto carry on acting as a force for good in our communities. It’s an honour to work with Maggie,she is a beacon of hope, that we are all so very proud of.

Maggie Turner has worked in a variety of roles supporting young people since 1992. Shespent 3 years as a social worker, followed by 11 years at ChildLine before joining the DianaAward in 2003.
