Create Public Service Announcements

Our 5th graders created PSAs about cyberbullying during our online awareness unit. They viewed several from the Ad Council, then used the Flip to create their own. We then showed  the PSAs to the Fourth Graders to teach them about cyberbullying.  

Your School in 3 Words

This year the 5th graders created Shipley in 3 Words as inspired by Good Morning America’s Week in 3 Words series they do during their weekend show. The kids worked in groups to come up with 3 words or a 3-word phrase to describe our school. Then they decided on a way to illustrate it, filmed, edited and we put them all together.

National Board Certification requires video entries from their candidates.

Students create their own videos to analyze motion of objects in the physics lab.

Field Trip/Study Adventures.  Create small productions on the day's progression. Museum, Mountains, Parks etc.  A great video to showcase the day's events and also use to fire up in coming students.

Administrators evaluation tool. The flip camera can be utilized from the quick "walk-through" to identify trends to formal observations. An ideal use for pre and post conferences with a focus on professional growth plans.

Pocket-size teachable moments. The unforeseen open forum on a particular topic that's perfect for review.

Secondary Speech and Debate practice or tournaments.  The snapshot that offers quick review of celebrations, critiques or suggestions.

Student led "Welcome to our school quick videos" - Great for new arrivals or community members.

Video in Writing Class

Have a writer showcase of the week...each week a student can write and record themselves reading their stories to be showcased on the school/teacher's website.

Great for quick video tutorials created by a variety of educational professionals or district employees.  From classroom management styles to proper PBS techniques to how-to videos on cleaning an LCD projector filter, the possibilities are endless.

Record important lessons for students who are out sick or on

vacation.

Since not all families vacation during school breaks, this is a great way to help students review what you did while they were gone. It can also be used to help struggling students review challenging material.

Elementary-High School

1. Create a "movie-trailer" type bookcast for a great book. 2. Create a source evaluation bookcast for a nonfiction book.     -summary of content    -source credibility and bias    -for what purpose this      source would be useful

Demonstrate sign language

Our organization supports school districts with speech and hearing services. We trained our staff with the FLIP cameras to videotape signing. It great for: • showing the vocabulary words• coaching the students in signing• showing parents how to sign• testing skills

   

During ski camp we followed ourstudents every day with a Flip camera.

In the evening they got video feedback from their teachers!This speeds up the learning process and is a lot of fun as well!

Create a Classroom Training Video

Use your camera to tape students while they’re working in groups. Edit selections to create a model for teaching problem solving and collaboration. Then have students watch it and comment on peer interactions and give suggestions for solving problems.  Save it to use each year, and edit it anytime you need to update.
