Dear Parents,

SCHOOL CYCLIC REVIEW

Once every 5 years Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) undertakes a cyclic review of each Catholic school in WA. The review encompasses all dimensions of the school and uses the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) report, ‘What makes a school a learning organisation?’ as a guide. We will have a panel of three representatives from CEWA who will undertake the review for our community. As part of this process the school was invited to reflect back over the last three years and also look to the future with our aims over the next three years. Panel members also interviewed selected staff and students from across the year groups and will meet with the leadership team, School Board, Parents and Friends and Parish Priest. At the end of this process the school will be given a report of which I will share with our community at a later date.

OPEN NIGHT

Thank you and congratulations to all our parents and grandparents who were able to attend our Open Night on Wednesday night. Our students really were able to showcase their talents in classwork, art and music. I think that you would all agree that we have an amazing group of wonderfully talented students at Mary’s Mount. Many thanks to our wonderful teachers who presented their classrooms so beautifully with the children’s work, to Mrs Hackner displaying our Robotics demonstration in the Library, to Mrs Hull-Deane for the colourful presentation of the students work and to Mr Leeder who organised and presented our performing arts students to entertain us all. To all those parents and grandparents who gave such positive feedback to either myself or other staff members, it was greatly appreciated.

CHRIST + WISDOM + COMMUNITY + TRADITION + RESPONSIBILITY

Dear God, Spring is a metaphor for change. Some changes we eagerly await, and some we abhor. Some changes we plan and others arrive uninvited. To all these changes we ask the gift of Your perspective beckoning us to expectation, hope and rebirth. May the sunlight and the rain be reminders that You are at work renewing the earth. As a God of renewal, you are ever at work in our lives too. Open our eyes and lives to the needed changes in our lives this Spring. Awaken us to new life and perspective, for we pray in Jesus’ Name . Amen

NAMING OF THE GIOVINAZZO CREATIVE LEARNING CENTRE During our Open Night, we held up proceedings for 10 -15 minutes to make a special dedication to two very special people within our school community. With the newly refurbished art room on full display with our students’ art work, the School Board recently discussed naming this room in honour of someone who has devoted time and great service to Mary’s Mount Primary School. After some discussion, it was decided that we name this room the, ‘Giovinazzo Creative Learning Centre’. It was an honour for us all to name this room after two special people in Assunta and Michael Giovinazzo. This beautiful couple served at Mary’s Mount Primary School for 49 years. What an incredible achievement! From kitchen hand, to gardening, maintenance and cleaners, both Assunta and Michael served with great distinction and pride.

STEM SHOW CASE YEAR 3 AND 4K On Tuesday 16 October, our Year 3 students attended a special STEM day at CEWA. A number of primary school within the metropolitan area were asked to present various projects that they carried out within their schools. Our Year 3 class and 4K class were asked to present and display their work. The 4K class displayed their work on ‘Community’, with some of the Year 3 students presenting this work to the crowd. The Year 3 class displayed their work on their ‘Sustainability program’ and were a big hit with their presentation. The showcase of work presented by our students was outstanding and very much appreciated by the CEWA STEM organisers winning our school a SPHERO device for use at school. Congratulations to all students in these classes and their wonderful teachers.

SCHOOL HATS As per school guidelines, all students must have a hat at lunch, recess and during outdoor activities. As the weather is already warming up this term it is even more important our students have a hat while out in the sun. Please ensure your child has a hat at school everyday.

Board & P&F AGM —7pm 20 November Notification of our 2018 AGM will be sent home next week. The AGM is not only an official school meeting, but also an opportunity to hear about all the activities, achievements and events we have held the past year. If you want to know more about our school, our objectives and projects, then we invite you to join us. The official part of the evening is only a small portion. Drinks and refreshments are also served, so it is a great opportunity to catch up with other parents too. The AGM is open to all families, and attendance does not mean you need to volunteer for a job or committee position.

God Bless!
