MASS TALK The “New” MyMassTV Network By Jeff Hansell In 2009, several of us on the Info Services Committee (Terry Duenas, Bill Nay & myself) developed MyMassTV as a “statewide government access TV network”, with the goal of connecting the Commonwealth to communities. On one hand we saw that state agencies & non-profits, including Governor Patrick’s office, were asking for an efficient way to distribute timely programs and vital public service information to the over 140 community TV channels in Massachusetts. On the other hand, we heard that many smaller community media centers were looking for programming that would be relevant and informative to residents in their communities. We felt that MassAccess could play an indispensable role in providing a network to host and distribute programming to serve the Commonwealth and its citizens. So in January 2009, MassAccess introduced MyMassTV, at a very well attended event, at the Statehouse with help from Governor Patrick and the Department of Elder Affairs. Though the first version of MyMassTV proved to be a bit too clunky and time consuming to keep updated, our committee kept working on it, until technology advanced so that we could put together a more direct way for access TV channels to preview and download programs. Earlier this year we rolled out MyMassTV Network 2.0 (massaccess.telvue.com) with much less fanfare, and instead we have concentrated in making sure it works, that it is updated, and that individual media centers know how to use it efficiently and easily.

Today, I’m pleased to report that 75 community media centers have registered on the MyMassTV Network, so far; and the number keeps growing. We’ve also seen more state departments & elected officials, federal agencies and non-profits seek out MassAccess & MyMassTV to distribute video content across the state.

Though still a work in progress, MyMassTV Network is working and is available to all MassAccess members. For more information, just go to MassAccess.org and click on the MyMassTV link.
