Spreadsheets can be a very powerful tool. Their use is becoming increasingly common in the preparation of design calculations. They can save time, money and effort. They provide the facility to optimise designs and they can help instill experience. However, these benefits have to be weighed against the risks associated with any endeavour. These risks must be recognised and managed. In other words appropriate levels of supervision and checking, including self-checking, must, as always, be exercised when using these spreadsheets.
Many local instructions are contained within individual
workbooks.Users are directed to the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Structural Safety (SCOSS) regarding the increasingly widespread availability of computer programs and circumstances in which their misuse could lead to unsafe structures.
Guidance on the use of each of the spreadsheets is given in the
accompanying User Guide. This spreadsheet should be used in compliance with the accompanying publication 'User Guide RC Spreadsheets: v4' available from The Concrete Centre www.concretecentre.com/rcdesign Tel +44 (0)1276 606800
An electronic version of the User Guide can be found on
your drive at:Min 128MB of RAM & 450MB processor, with Windows 2000 or later and Excel 2000 or later. For optimum display, please view at 1024 x 768 resolution and min 16 bit colour.
All advice or information from the British Cement Association (BCA) and/or The Concrete Centre (TCC) is intended for those who will evaluate the significance and limitations of its contents and take responsibility for its use and application. No liability (including that for negligence) for any loss resulting from such advice or information is accepted by the BCA, TCC or their subcontractors, suppliers or advisors. Users should note that all TCC software and publications are subject to revision from time to time and should therefore ensure that they are in possession of the latest version.
Do not paste or drag data (destroys conditional cell formatting).
Do not open an individual spreadsheet in more than one window (this may disable pulldowns).
The RC Spreadsheets are shareware. However, they may not be used for commercial purposes until the user has registered for a licence with the program provider - The Concrete Centre. Licences (and copies of the spreadsheets) may be purchased from The Concrete Bookshop (see above) or via The Concrete Centre website. For further and latest information, updates, FAQs, trial versions, latest news and other information on the RC-Spreadsheet suite please see:-
Macros All workbooks contain macros for printing, navigation, iteration etc. Please ensure that Macros are enabled in your Excel configuration.
