its ease of living, strong economy, ample job opportunities, good schools ,

There is no better time for relocating your business to the commerce-
fr iendly City of Miramar with our development and redevelopment
ini t ia t ives and smart growth. Our planned corporate campuses,
designed expressly to meet the needs of clean industry, have made
us a preferred locale for major corporations and Fortune 500 compa-
nies.
The City at t racts large companies while ass is t ing small businesses ,
thereby strengthening Miramar’s economic base. The core of Miramar’s
s t rong local economy is record low unemployment and one of the
highest average household incomes in South Florida, figures that
exceed s ta te and nat ional averages. The projected economic out look
is for this t rend to cont inue.
But the area is hardly all business; two of the world’s most fabulous
recreat ional dest inat ions, Ft . Lauderdale Beach and Miami Beach,
are r ight in our back yard. Plus , 14 major col leges and univers i t ies
are within a few short miles .

South Flor ida has some of the very best l i fes tyles , commerce,
and potential that the United States has to offer. Our unique location
and incomparable cl imate cont inue to draw people f rom across the
country, the cont inent , and the globe. We’ve become the center of
fashion, enter ta inment , and commerce. Our diverse mult icul tural
inf luences have fostered a unique and sophis t icated l i fes tyle that
has made us the key commercial hemispheric gateway to Lat in
American and Caribbean markets. And at the center of it all is Miramar!
Spanning most of the southern border of Broward County, Miramar is
within 30 minutes of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Internat ional and
Miami Internat ional Airports , and both Port Everglades and the Port
of Miami. The Brickel l Avenue area of Miami, also about 30 minutes
from Miramar, is a leading hub of international banking and commerce,
with branch offices or regional headquarters for many of the world’s
leading financial inst i tut ions.
Two fi rs t -c lass seaports , Ft . Lauderdale’s Port Everglades and the
Port of Miami, are within 25 miles f rom the City of Miramar. They
are the nat ion’s favori te departure points for le isure cruis ing, as
well as important cargo ports .
Port Everglades has 12 cruise ship terminals and is home to 20
cruise l ines . I t i s a lso the 12th leading container port in the world,
moving mil l ions of tons of cargo each year. The Port’s Foreign
Trade Zone (FTZ), the fi rs t of i ts kind and the largest in Flor ida, is
essent ia l to import and export businesses. The value of goods mov-
ing through the FTZ is expected to be over $285 million within the
next year. Its popularity is influenced by three factors: location, con-
venience and customer service. Of special note is Miramar’s own
Foreign Trade Zone located in the center of the City in the
Miramar Park of Commerce.
The Port of Miami, the cargo gateway of the Americas and the
cruise capi ta l of the world, is just three naut ical miles f rom the
ocean shipping lanes . I t serves South and Central America and the
Caribbean Basin, Europe, Asia and Afr ica , with more than 54% of
the cargo tonnage moving to and from the Caribbean and Lat in
America. In the las t few years the Far East has become the fastest
growing t rade region for the Port .

Miami Internat ional Airport , ranked fi rs t in internat ional f re ight and
third in international passengers among US airports, has a $19.1 billion
annual impact on local tourism, the cruise industry, international banking,
trade and commerce. The Airport and related aviation industries contribute
242,387 jobs direct ly and indirect ly to the South Flor ida economy,
which equates to one in every 4.3 jobs.

Residents and businesses feel very secure knowing that they are

wastewater treatment, refuse collection, street maintenance, stormwater
maintenance, engineering standards, and fast and efficient response to
emergency si tuat ions.
The City’s Economic Development and Revi ta l izat ion Department
balances our posi t ion as a premier business locale for major corpo-

of our small business community with an array of programs designed
to promote and encourage business opportuni t ies .
For instance, the Cert i fied Business Analyst Program offers direct

essent ia l e lements in our cont inuing s t ra tegic plan to develop as a
City with a vision for the future while serving the needs of the present.
Miramar has received State Certification for its Comprehensive Plan from
The State of Florida Department of Community Affairs. The
Comprehensive Plan is a state required, long range planning document,
encompassing land use, transportation, housing, and infrastructure ele-
ments that manage future growth. The City has demonstrated a track
record of having technical, financial, and administrative expertise to
effectively adopt, implement, and enforce its planning initiatives inde-
pendent of State oversight. Miramar is one of only three municipalities in
the entire State that can claim this distinction.
The City of Miramar is current ly bui lding the 54-acre Miramar
Town Center, a premier mixed-use development . I t i s designed as
an idyl l ic t radi t ional downtown with pedestr ian-or iented s t reets ,
