PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVES Our first Parent/Teacher afternoon is on Tuesday 20th March from 3.30 – 6.30pm. I encourage all parents to meet with teachers about your child’s progress and share thoughts and ideas around ongoing learning. Details on how to make appointments will be made available soon. If parents are unable to attend. Appointments can be made at any time through our administration office. It was a very successful school assembly last Wednesday. It is an important part of the school calendar and an opportunity for parents, staff and students to come together and celebrate our student’s achievements and contributions. Our next assembly is on Wednesday 4th April. Parents, grandparents and friends are always welcome and encouraged to attend. Australian schools will stand united in their communities to celebrate the eighth National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). The National Day of Action is Australia’s key anti-bullying event for schools and in 2018, schools are called to imagine a world free from bullying and share their BIG IDEAS. The National Day is a positive day of action, bringing school communities together to help find workable solutions that address bullying and violence. Balranald Central School will identify a day following the official National Day on Friday 16th March as it clashes with our International Day celebrations. Stay tuned! We have recently purchased and installed two new basketball rings and backboards. The quality sporting equipment is utilised in our PDHPE and sporting programs as well as free play during the lunch break. Basketball is experiencing some momentum in Balranald at the moment with our Open Boys team competing for the first time in many years. (See report on page 4 of this newsletter) Aaron Flagg

Opens Boys Basketball Competition @ Deniliquin 2018

On Tuesday the 27nd of February, the BCS boys’ basketball team travelled to Deniliquin to compete in the 2018 Opens Boys Basketball Competition. These students were Kobe and Drew Lloyd, Jack Gervasi, Javen Ricevuto, Loui Gervasi, Brandon Soraggi, Mitchell Carmichael, Dartanian Pocock, Matthew McIvor-Kepa and Isaac Lloyd. The boys played 5 games in a round robin format against teams from Tooleybuc Central School, Hay War Memorial High School, Barham High School, Finley High School and Deniliquin High School. Against, in most cases, much taller and more experienced opposition, the boys competed strongly across all 5 games and showcased great skill and enthusiasm, coming away victorious in their games against Tooleybuc and Hay. Well done to all of our boys who were a part of this team.

Scores from the day:

• Balranald vs Tooleybuc – Won 18-9

• Balranald vs Barham – Lost 31-10

• Balranald vs Deniliquin – Lost 36-5

• Balranald vs Finley – Lost 27-16

• Balranald vs Hay – Won 11-8

HEAD LICE FACTS • Head lice are an unavoidable fact of life for all school-aged kids.

• Head lice and nits only live on human heads.

• They don't care if the hair is long or short, clean or dirty.

• Kids with head lice don’t always scratch. The only way to rule out infestation is to look carefully through your child’s hair.

• White specks stuck near the base of the hairs; lice may be found on the scalp.

• The best and cheapest way to remove them is with inexpensive conditioner and a nit comb.

• You will need to re-treat your child several times before all the eggs will be gone.

COULD WE PLEASE ASK ALL PARENTS TO CHECK THEIR CHILD’S HAIR FOR HEAD LICE ON A REGULAR BASIS
