NCAA INFORMATION

ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS According to the NCAA, only approximately 2% of all athletes in the nation receive athletic scholarships. So, only superior athletes will receive an athletic scholarship. ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY In order to be academically eligible to receive a scholarship, students must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse will evaluate the student-athlete’s high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores to determine if the student is academically eligible. If a student-athlete is not academically eligible, they will not receive a Division I or Division II scholarship. The NCAA has the following requirements for academic eligibility: 1. The student must complete a minimum of 16 core courses. Core course consist of English, Mathematics, Science,

Social Studies, and World Language only. 2. A complete list of NCAA approved courses for Immaculata High School is on pp. 3-4. 3. Physical Education and most elective course do not count as core courses. 4. Course requirements:

a. 4 years of English b. 3 years of Math (Algebra 1 or higher) c. 2 years of Natural/Physical Science (including one year of lab science if your high school offers it) d. 1additional year of English, Math or Natural/Physical Science. e. 2 years of Social Science. f. 4 additional years of English, Math, Natural/Physical Science, Social Science, Foreign Language,

Comparative Religion or Philosophy. 5. Complete 10 core courses, including 7 in English, Math or Natural/Physical Science, before your 7th semester. Once

you begin your 7th semester, you may not repeat or replace any of those 10 courses to improve your core-course GPA. 6. Earn at least a 2.3 GPA in your core courses. 7. The NCAA will recalculate the student-athlete’s grade point average, using only final grades from the core courses.

Please be aware that the GPA on the transcript is not the GPA that the NCAA Clearinghouse recognizes. 8. Earn an SAT combined score or ACT sum score matching your core-course GPA on the Division I sliding scale,

which balances your test score and core-course GPA. If you have a low test score, you need a higher core-course GPA to be eligible. If you have a low core-course GPA, you need a higher test score to be eligible. The NCAA slide scale is on p. 5.

9. It is very important to note that each university has their own academic requirements. When a student-athlete is cleared through the NCAA, it does not necessarily mean that they will get accepted to all colleges. Make sure you check the school's academic requirements. HOW TO REGISTER:

1. Log on to www.eligibilitycenter.org 2. Select Prospective Student-Athletes on the main page. 3. Register as a U. S. or international student-athlete 4. Complete the Student Release From, which authorizes the Eligibility Center to discuss your status with colleges

and universities. 5. Include your debit or credit card information to pay the registration fee. 6. Click on Transcript Release Form. If a Transcript Release Form is required for your school, print it, sign it and

present it to your Guidance Counselor. This will allow your high School to send your transcript to the Eligibility Center.

7. Complete the Amateurism Questionnaire. 8. Request that your Guidance Counselor send an official transcript to the Eligibility Center. 9. Have your SAT and/or ACT scores directly to the NCAA. The College Board code number is 9999.

SLIDING SCALE

The NCAA uses a “sliding scale” to help determine student’s eligibility. The sliding scale is a combination of SAT/ACT scores and the student’s GPA in the core courses, which determine if the student qualifies for a scholarship (See p. 5).
