We would like to welcome everyone to the 9th edition of “Our Commitment” Bid-Off Female Sale. It’s hard to believe that another year has passed by so quickly, decisions have been made that will impact the 2017 calf crop and we have even begun making plans for what the 2018 offering will look like. We will continue to focus on raising and offering some of the best prospects in the country and helping our customers reach their goals.

The mantra “right kind, right way, right people” started as a slogan but over time has given our program greater purpose for why we get up every day and work hard to make our goals and customers goals, achievements. Each year we strive to breed and raise the “right kind” geared for both the show ring and production. In this pursuit, we spend countless hours planning mating’s and re-planning them to ensure our program can offer some of the top prospects in the country each and every year from multiple breeds. We also work diligently to do everything the “right way” maintaining high integrity, putting in the extra hours of work that would be easier left to chance and at times take our licks to hopefully one day be rewarded for our efforts of doing what is right and raising the right kind. The last part of the statement is about working with the “right people” we truly value the relationships that have been built over the years and look forward to the many new relationships that are yet to come. We understand as parents the roll that we play in your children’s life. The opportunity to be a role model for the youth of the cattle industry is something that we are extremely humbled by and do not take the responsibility lightly. “Right kind, right way, right people” that is Our Commitment. 2016 started with a bang, in January our program was a represented by 3 breed champions or reserves at the National Western Stock Show, and 3 additional breed champion honors at the Fort Worth Stock Show. We also were honored with raising the Grand Champion Shorthorn Plus Female, 2016 Junior National as well as the 4th Overall Champion Shorthorn Female, 2016 Junior National. Breed champions were captured across the Midwest at the Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas and Nebraska state fairs this summer. We now anxiously await the fall major show season and what that holds for our program.

BIDS - Base prices have been established on all of the calves. If more than one person in interested in the same calf, we will hold a bid-off auction on that particular calf.

The auction is open to only those who place a bid on that calf by dark on the 3rd of October. All bids will be a minimum of $250.00. Once a calf gets to $10,000.00 the bids will increase to a minimum of $500.00

All bidders names will be kept confidential during the bidding process unless all parties involved in bidding on a particular calf wish to have their names disclosed.

A person may bid on 2nd or 3rd choice, as long as those bids are turned in by dark on the 3rd of October. (We will try to bid off your 1st choice first and if you don’t get that calf purchased, you may bid on your consecutive choices. If you don’t get your first choice purchased you are not bound to your 2nd or 3rd choice bids).

All bidding will be handled by phone. Initial bids may be made in person or by phone anytime. We will start bidding off the calves Saturday evening at 7 PM. We want to do our best to finish things up in a timely manner. We ask that you please stay close to your phone while we are bidding off your calf.

PICKUP/DELIVERY - All cattle must be picked up by October 15th, unless other arrangements have been made. All cattle must be paid for in full by October 10th. Cattle cannot be picked up without being paid for.

DNA/FLUSHES - Steck Cattle/DJS Shorthorns/DUNK Cattle Co. retains the rights to obtain DNA material on all cattle selling.

Retaining the rights to two successful flushes on all females in this offering. At our sellers and owners convenience.

Retaining 1 flush per year on lots 9 & 10. At sellers expense and owners convenience.

5Here we go again! I have often times wondered how closely footnotes are read or if people find any valid-ity to them. For the past two sales I have made statements like if you want to have a major show contender next fall then look no further. Well I will state it one more time. HERE SHE IS, I feel very strongly that this female possesses all of the traits that I look for in a great bred heifer to show from junior nationals thru the fall majors.

Queen 1424 is without question one of the best producing Shorthorn cows we have ever been around. She is just a 5 year old but in those 4 calving opportunities is yet to raise a daughter that hasn’t been grand or reserve breed champion at their respective state fairs. She started in 2013 with an I-80 sired female that was named Reserve Champion Shorthorn Plus Female at the 2014 Minnesota State Fair for Shayna DeGroot.

Following that up in 2014 & 2015, Myka Blissard showed a dominant full sister that won a majority of the Texas majors for two years in a row. And, last year her 2015 daughter was selected by Tyler DeGroot to be his show heifer and future donor cow. Tyler and Queen 506 (Charisma X Queen 1424) was selected this summer as 4th Overall Champion Female, 2016 Shorthorn Junior National and was also just selected as the Champion Shorthorn Female, 2016 Minnesota State Fair Jr. and Open shows.
