The Real Board Rambler

Issue 4

Hello Ressies and welcome to the fourth Real Board Rambler!

Great turnout last week, thank you everyone who played!

This week, we are stepping up game levels. We are still in ‘Opener’ territory (games easy to introduce people to

modern gaming), but now you will be rolling dice AND playing cards! Oh… and using Cafes to steal from peo-

ple… strange coffee thieves… Let’s get started!

Game: Machi Koro

Players: 2-4

Playing time: 30

mins

This cute game from Japanese designer Masao Suganuma gives you a Bakery, a Wheat Field, and a few coins to

develop your own little town. Each turn, you roll a single die and whatever number you roll determines whether

you get money from the bank, everyone gets money from the bank, or someone else gets to take your money!

With your little coins you can buy new buildings for your little borough to increase your chances of getting a

scoring roll. Once you have enough money you can build your four ‘Major Developments’. First person to devel-

op all four is the winner!

The best thing about this game is that there are many simple strategies to winning, none of which are too com-

plex to figure out, keeping everyone in the game to the end.

So if you are hanging around Res for Easter, come down on Monday night for some Machi Koro.

Until then, enjoy your games!

10 Minute Chicken, Corn & Kimchi Ramen Serves 4

Ingredients

4 cups low-sodium chicken stock

Three packages ramen noodles (flavour packets discarded)

One package of baby spinach (about 4 cups)

2 cups shredded chick-en (leftover rotisserie works best)

2 cups kimchi

1 1/2 cups frozen corn kernels

2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce

3 spring onions

4 sheets toasted seaweed

Method

Combine the chicken broth, 1 cup water, ramen noodles, spinach, chick-

en, kimchi, corn and soy sauce in a large saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally, about 6 minutes; boil for 1 mi-nute.

Meanwhile, slice the spring onions and tear the seaweed into bite-size

pieces.

Divide the hot ramen among 4 shallow bowls and top each with spring onions and seaweed.
