Each week, we’ll share a best practices tip for museums and history organizations. These tips willinclude ethics, management, governance, collections care, serving audiences, fundraising and muchmore.

THIS WEEK: MUSEUM ETHICSMuseums, as 501c3 nonprofit organizations, are legally established for public benefit. That means thatwe hold our collections in the public trust, and our organizations' top priority should be committed toserving our audiences. Take time to regularly review your governance, management and planningprocesses to make sure you are not only complying with all federal, state and local laws, but alsoupholding these ethical standards. For further reading, see AAM’s Code of Ethics for Museums.

If you have a question about this tip or if there’s anything you’d like to hear more about, pleasecontact us at [email protected].
