Change to the School Day You may recall that I wrote to you in March detailing plans to alter the school day. This was done with the intention of increasing the amount of Basic Skills (English & Maths) being taught across the school and improving pupil behaviour. The initial trial period has come to an end, and I am pleased to say that extra Literacy & Numeracy time has been embedded and we hope to see improvements in our pupils attainment very soon. However, the Governing Body feel that a further alteration to the school day is required. Therefore, from Tuesday, 5th September 2017 the school day will begin at 8.50am and end at 3.15pm. This change will include the shortening of the lunch time from one hour, to fifty minutes. Pupils will continue to receive the same time in the canteen, however, it is felt the shorter lunchtime will improve lunchtime behaviour. Due to lunchtime being shortened, learning/contact time pupils currently receive will remain the same - there is no change to teaching/contact time. Members of Staff will be on duty from 8.40am, allowing for Breakfast Club to be dismissed as usual. However, can we ask, as always, that pupils are collected punctually at the end of the school day. I sincerely hope the change to the school day causes you minimal disruption and, ultimately, benefits your child. If you have any questions, please contact the school. Mr G.
