Hello everyone,Well BIKES are certainly a focus of what we are doing at school atthe moment!! The big bike activity days for each syndicate are ontomorrow. A big thankyou to all the parents and family members

who have offered to help with these days. We do still need helpersfor the Junior day in order to be able to run the full programme so ifyou can help out please contact Lynda Bayne.Bike days are a heap of fun and the children learn lots of differentskills. We have a mock set of roads set up on the rugby field and thechildren can practice their road skills during lunch times and playtimes. We have a huge number of bikes at school at the moment andmany thanks to the team of tinkerers who have fixed the minoradjustment issues that we have found over the past weeks.

There is a BoT meeting tonight and we have an election for two

positions coming up soon. Do think about being involved in theBoT! It is an interesting job and all the BoT have found it interestingto find out about the workings of the school from the inside. There isa lot that goes on that parents and the community never see that keepsthe school going. The Board set the policy directions for the schooland they are the ones who decide on the directions we take withschool developments, building projects, etc. Being a BoT member isa complex but rewarding role. Do have a chat with one of the currentBoT about what you could do to be involved.

It is only just over a week until the Twilight Mardi Gras. Heaps ofthings are happening now to get all the details in place for thiswonderful event. Do let us know at school if you are able to help inany way. We are looking for gazebos for stalls and if you have oneyou can lend please let me know.

There is currently a review of Special Education under way. This isthe term for all the different support mechanisms for the 10-15% ofchildren who may be struggling with their academic work, behaviour,or have specific developmental or medical needs. There isinformation on the MoE website you can access from

http://www.minedu.govt.nz/theMinistry/Consultation/Reviewofspecialeducation.aspx and I would encourage families to respond if youhave ideas about challenges, changes or positives you see in ourcurrent system/s.

We are having class meetings on the 2nd of March. These areintended to be a time for teachers to share how things will work intheir classrooms and to answer any questions that may have come upabout programmes, homework etc. They are not an interview, thesecome later in the year. Meetings will be 30minutes long and eachclassroom will run two meetings 7pm and 7:30pm to

accommodate those families with children in more than oneclassroom.

Have a safe and happy week!Greg Carroll, Principal.

Thank you to those who responded to our many requests last week. But we still have areas that

need bits and pieces, so if you can help out still, that would be brilliant!

Lots of Second hand stuff! We need more second hand items the more we have, the more money

we make! Please, please go through your jewellery and see what you can donate. This is always a

popular stall. I know it is hard to part with things but if you no longer where them, and not passing

them on to family members, please consider donating them. Clothes, kids toys, kids clothes,

books, magazines, records etc will be gratefully received! Ask your families or friends youd be

surprised what people are happy to pass on. Contact: Su Miller: 4862348 or Wendy Bungard on:

    4861890

Solar lights: We need solar lights to help guide people along the paths later on in the evening when

it gets dark. Contact Jodi McLeod on 027 815 8090 to help in this area.

Fairy Lights: Jodi also needs a hand on the Friday before the Mardi Gras (the 19 th) to help string

up Fairy Lights. She has asked for 6 people in the evening for a maximum of two hours. Please call

her if you can help on 027 815 8090.

Plastic bags and ice-cream containers: We still need plastic bags for the Retro Alley and ice-

cream containers. Please leave at the office.

Lollies: Louise Jamison is in charge of our lolly stall and she would like to know if there are parents

out there who can help by making fudge, toffee, rocky road etc. Louise also needs a hand onWednesday the 17th of February to help and bag the lollies in the morning. Her number is: 4862761.

Picnic Tables: We need picnic tables for our Mardi Gras and if anyone has any they can lend for

the night, that would be most appreciated!

Button Brooches/button clips etc: I would love to have one more night of sewing our gorgeous

button hair elastics and making button brooches. On Monday, the 15th of February, at 7pm, I will

be in the workshop if anyone would like to come along and help. It is a lot of fun!

Moving Trestles: I need a hand to move a whole lot of trestles on Friday the 19th at 8pm from theChurch Hall (after Flower Show cleans up) to the School Hall. Are there any kind souls who could

    help?

Wooden Chopping Board: In the Pizzeria area we are gong to need large wooden chopping boards

to cut the large pizzas. Could we borrow them for the night, please? Another thought we would

love to have a big pizza cutter to help speed up the pizza process. Are we lucky enough to have

anyone out there that has one, and could you lend it to us for the night? Contact: Alex Morton on:

Agent Bird and Olympian CatOne day a snoozy cat slept on the wooden deck. The cat opened one eye to spy a litt le tweety birdlooking for some worms. But the cat didnt know that the bird was a spy seeing what cats do. The catgingerly stood up to eat t he bird when the bird took flight. The bird got a head start but what the birddidnt know was tha t the ca t was training to be in the Olympics. The cat sprinted so she was just behindthe bird. The bird dodged a puddle to see the silly cat leap into the cold water.
