Ron’s Ramblings

When Glenfield SeniorNetwas first formed some twelveyears ago, things had to bedone in a hurry and the formatused for the Constitution wastaken from another Centrewhich obviously had the sameproblem. Don’t know howthey got on in the end.

Ours has been altered once ortwice to correct some of theerrors which had been foundbut it was felt that now’s thetime to make a proper job ofit.

Ray and Roy have spent a lotof time going through theconstitution and have adoptedthe policy of “how shouldthey be and how are they atthis time”. So it became a caseof start again and do itproperly. We’d like yourcomments on the result.

As usual there are vacanciesfor committee members dueto a variety of reasons. In thenewsletter you’ll find aNomination Form for you tofill in.

We are losing Jack this yearas he is moving from thisshore to another shore furthernorth. It’s been marvellous forus to have heard all those

speakers with their expertiseon different subjects thathe’s brought to the meetings. We shall miss him greatly.

Another person we shallmiss is Christine ourMembership Manager. Sheis a member of othercommittees and finds it toomuch to keep up with.

Third to mention is Ray whohas been a stalwart for manyyears and who is full to thebrim with knowledge. Henow feels that he must moveon.

Thank You Jack,Christine and Ray for yourcontribution to the Centreover the past years.

So now we are looking to fillthose places. Don’t be shy incoming forward.

We all have skills acquiredover a lifetime so give someserious thought to puttingyour name forward as acommittee member or as ahelper in some othercapacity.

A customer had a download speed of 0.73which is less that ‘dialup’ speed and waspaying for broadband.

The above is a snap of what is pretty good.

Your Story

The club meeting held Friday 27th discussedthe concept of using photographs and othermedia including text from the past and presentas a basis for recording the story of one’s life, family and adventures; everyone has a story totell and much of it is already in albums andshoe boxes.

The thinking at the momentis that over four weeks:1. We start with a work-shop that would encompassthe gathering of material byscanning printed photos ortransparencies or negativesor flash drives and convert-ing it to a digital format.

2. With discussion andcoaching, time is spent edit-ing the images and savingthem in a format for printingand/or cd/dvd for display onTV or computer or in Face-book or similar on-line stor-age. Editing could be donein Picasa or Photoshop

3. The text is started mostlikely in Word. This couldinclude captions for the imag-es, dialogue for Powerpoint orthe draft of a book.

4. The various forms oftext and images are joined upto form the final presentation. The work involved in thevarious processes can matchthe skill level required. It ispossible that some processesmight take up more than thetime allocated, and in this casefurther time can be negotiated.(This might be a standard fourweek course).

There are several options forprinted matter ranging fromhigh quality hard back booksto office laser printed colourpages.

Further down the track musicfrom long player records ornarration could be added ascould movies stored on vhstape or from cam-corders andfilm and cameras. Theaddition of family trees willbe considered.

SeniorNet Glenfield has the equipment, courses and programmes needed to enablemembers to assemble albums, scrapbooks inprint or digital formats; all that is required frommembers is the enthusiasm and time.

There was sufficient enthusiasm for thegroup to discuss how this should be doneand to start it was decided that aworkshop format rather than a formalcourse would work best.

Friday morning was the best time for thoseassembled last Friday, and the first workshopwill be the first Friday in September.
