Professional Logger Program - Certification Any qualified individual successfully completing 32 credits of basic course work within two years will be certified for a period of four years.

COURSE WORKAll candidates must complete: First Aid & CPR - 8 credits NH Timber Harvesting Law - 8 credits

In addition, all cutters, equipment operators and others engaged in logging operations must complete: Safe and Productive Felling - 8 credits Fundamentals of Forestry - 8 credits

Mechanized logging operators may substitute: Mechanized Harvesting - 8 credits for Safe and Productive Felling - 8 credits Truckers may substitute: Safe Trucking - 8 credits for Safe and Productive Felling - 8 credits

EXCEPTIONSSimilar courses, except NH Timber Harvesting Law, taken through other organizations may apply. Please call the Timber Harvesting Council office at (603) 224-9699 for course review.

TIMETABLEIndividuals hoping to become certified should complete the required course work within two calendar years. It is possible to repeat courses taken earlier if the two years have gone by.

This course will also include a mock inspection from the NH Department of Safety, in addition to a brief discussion on traffic rules/regulations and what to do if drivers are pulled over.

Young Logger – Young Forester Eighth Annual Maple and Mud MeetingThe Young Loggers, Young Foresters is an informal group started by Eric Johnson in 2011, to provide a place for younger professionals to meet, network and discuss issues facing them as young businessmen and women. We continue these events every spring and fall with a meeting and cookout. There will be a chance to talk about New Hampshire legislation updates, changes to the wetlands rules, and get an update on the upcoming Professional Logger Program classes. NH Professional Logger Program credits are available for those who attend.

Course Content: This workshop will give loggers a better understanding of forest management and appropriate applications of silviculture. Course content includes discussion/powerpoints on historical events, current status of New Hampshire forests, Silvicultural principles of New England, Forest types, landowner goals and objectives, tree growth/maturity/vigor, forest regeneration, wildlife habitat, harvesting systems, and loggers function in silviculture. Field sessions will focus on log scaling, grades, and utilization at a sawmill.

and prioritizing the most profitable log product.• Silvicultural field walk, discussion of management

N.H. Timber Harvesting Law8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Course Content: A one-day workshop presenting information on New Hampshire’s Timber Harvesting Laws, Wetland Regulations, and the use of Best Management Practices. Practical, hands-on instruction for today’s logging professional.

Timber Tax Law - The specific rules and process regarding the Intent and Report of Cut forms as required, plus other valuable information from the N.H. Department of Revenue Administration.

Timber Harvesting Law - Forest Rangers will explain N.H.’s timber harvesting laws, including the details of slash and basal area laws, the timber trespass and deceptive forest practices laws.

Wetlands Regulations - Representatives from the N.H. Wetlands Bureau will present information including wetlands identification and the procedure and requirements for preparing the Minimum Impact Notification form. Best Management Practices will also be covered.
