PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
We would like to thank everyone for the kind words, cards,
thoughts and prayers for the loss of husband, father, and
grandfather, Bill Swaney. Our family is all in the area which
is a blessing during this time.
If you’ve been thinking about calling or visiting a family member
or friend you haven’t seen in a while, do not wait.
That’s pretty much all I’ve got for this month.
Mary Jo
P.S. We need a secretary!
Calling Tour Planners
The first day of Spring is not far away. Perfect time to think about where to go and what
to do. It can be casual, meet for ice cream or more involved. Share your calendar for
those favorite cruises. Or maybe someplace you want to visit but not alone.
Bring your thoughts to a meeting or send an email to me at [email protected].
If you already have a date, we can put in on the calendar. - Cindy Cook
Old cars need driven and some drivers need practice!

NHHAC Annual After-Christmas Party
Steve Illsley was the winning bidder of
Clarice Sabina’s beautiful quilt!
Again, I am amazed at the friendship shared by our Club Members. Even with difficult
times, members stepped up to the tasks at hand. There were great items donated for
the Auction to support the Club. Good food, nice talks, many hugs and smiles. Thank
you to all for your attendance and contributions! - - Cindy Cook
Daryl Elliott and Rick Kelly were quite
the auctioneers!

Joseph John Dresbach
December 31, 2019 at 84 years old
It is with great sorrow that we mark the passing of a member of the NHHAC family. Joe was a lifelong car and motorcycle enthusiast and founding member of The Winders Garage in the Town of McCandless. He is survived by his wife, Clara, a past President and Vice President of NHHAC and present member.
Joe Dresbach was a familiar sight driving his 1934 Ford Roadster. He often attended cruises and car shows in his favorite car. Joe and Clara met when she was in her early twenties at a Halloween Party. Joe asked to take her home in his 1939 Ford Coupe.
Joe was a member of the Winders Hot Rod Club. Joe drew plans for his B modified competition roadster on Clara’s parents dining room table, which he raced at the drag strips. He and a partner friend had the second fastest car in the country at the time.
As you can imagine, Joe was not in favor of anyone else driving his 34 Ford. Several years ago, while Clara was still working, she stopped by the house on her way to making a call and picked up the 34 Ford. Joe then came home from work and “The Car” was missing and so was Clara! Joe quickly called Clara on her cell phone and as calmly as he could, under the circumstances, said, “Where are you?” She replied she was on a business call in Butler. He said again with a measured calmness, “Are you using the Roadster?” Clara told Joe, “Yes, it was such a shame to have it just sitting in the garage on such a beautiful day, so I came home and got it.” Joe then said, “About when do you think you will be home?” Clara said, “The sooner you hang up, the sooner I can finish my call and start home.” Joe said, “Okay I’ll see you when you get home, Good Bye.” They often laughed about that day.
Joe was always very active in the car hobby also with his 1977 F-100 Pickup Truck and Clara’s purchase of a 1950 Ford Crestliner Sedan, but foremost his 1934 Ford Roadster.
Excerpts from submission by Joe Acker.

Bill Swaney
February 15, 1936 - February 10, 2020
The club lost a legend with the passing of Bill Swaney, a member since July 1981. The listing in the August 1981 newsletter reads:
New Members – Bill and Mary Swaney (Jack’s parents); Cars – they have a multitude of them.
Here’s an aerial photo of his garage in 1965. See the 1940 Ford in the lower right corner?
Following are some of the reactions from club members on hearing the sad news: “Oh, that is too bad! We’ll all miss his friendliness and his infectious smile. Come to think of it, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen him cross. RIP, Bill. Love this photo!” - Suzanne and Jim Heatherington
“It was true. Bill was always kind and smiling. I figure Bill was only 17 or so when he bought the coupe.”- Cindy Cook
“A part of my past is lost. I sold Bill a 1936 Chrysler coupe in 1953 for $15.” - Bob Stauffer
“Mr. Swaney (I never called him Bill) was always cheerful and friendly, and he really enjoyed his vehicles. I was a volunteer at the Starlite Car Cruise when he drove his 1932 Ford hot rod in the main entrance looking like a boy with his favorite toy. He had one of the biggest grins I have ever seen. That image has stayed with me.” – Jennie Barker
“Mr. Swaney was always friendly and kind-hearted to me.
A few years ago, I had asked Jack to do some work on
my ’66 Mustang while we were out of town. When we
came home, I realized that Bill had rebuilt the carburetor
for me. No more hesitation when I hit the gas! No more
setting the idle too high! Now it runs like a dream. I think
of him every time I take it for a spin.” – Ken Barker
