The international aspects of yourexperience start with your internationalclassmates and continue from there. The international modules, case studies, instructors, and specialization oppor -tunities all contribute to the internationalflavor of the Nyenrode MBA experience. This international awareness is criticalfor survival in the global economy.Markets are global and so is the increasingdemand for internationally orientedmanagement talent.

Small class sizeAt Nyenrode, you are not just a number.Keeping classes at an intimate size ofbetween 25 to 45 students means thatyou’ll get a great deal of personal attentionfrom our faculty and staff, with informalfeedback easily arranged at short notice.

The small class size and on-campus livingarrange ments also encourage a spirit ofcamaraderie with your fellow students.Limiting class sizes naturally ensures thatgroup projects, field trips, and extra-curricular activities are more engagingfor everyone.

Company interactionWe believe that you can’t learn aboutbusiness without learning about companies, and the best way to learn about companiesis to interact with them.

Throughout the course of the program, youwill be exposed to many different types ofcompanies across many different typesof industries, in the form of company visits, guest lectures from executives, and specificcase studies designed to put yourknowledge to the test.

We’re in the right place

“Created by business forbusiness, Nyenrode is exactly

the type of university you’dexpect to find in a country

that had the world’s firststock exchange, first central

bank, and first multinational. Our campus is situated on a

13th-century castle estatelocated just 20 minutes fromAmsterdam, one of Europe’s

key social, cultural, andfinancial hubs.“

Our students thinkfor themselves

“Most Japanese studentsgo to US business schools, but what others do doesn’tinterest me. I visited Nyenrodeand I was very impressed withits beautiful campus and smallclasses. And because moststudents live on campus andmuch of the work is done ina group context, it has beeneasier to gain internationalexperience and understandcultural differences too.”

The Academic ExperienceCore program

The MBA curriculumWhether or not you have a business-relatedbachelor degree, the rigorous, intensiveInternational MBA program covers a widerange of functional areas to equip you withthe necessary theory, and then asks you toapply your knowledge to the reality of thecommercial world.

Whatever your background, ourcurriculum has been designed to informand to inspire. We carefully design thecontent of each module to ensure that thespecific knowledge derived from eachcourse can be successfully applied insubsequent blocks and, over the course ofthe program, comprehensively addresseseach key element in today’s internationalmarketplace.

The “warm-up” As the program we’ve designed is quitedemanding, many of our students areinterested in sharpening their skills beforethey begin. To support them in doing so, we

offer an optional one-week “warm up”module prior to the program that includesa math refresher with statistics. We believethat the value of this optional program isthat it enables students to master the toolsearly, so that during the program they canfocus more on applying than acquiringknowledge.

The “wrap-up”The International MBA program concludeswith a special project designed to put youranalytical, practical, and personalcompetencies to the test. More than “just”a project, this is the ultimate opportunityfor you to refine the skills you’ve learnedthroughout the program. Regardless of theform of “wrap-up” you will choose, you willwork on your project under the guidanceof a faculty supervisor.

Due to the changing nature of the business world and ourcommitment to delivering a highly relevant program, pleasenote that changes to the curriculum and other programelements may be made without prior notice.

Global experienceEurope | Americas | Asia

We believe that an internationalexperience is critical when studyinginternational business. Three differenttypes of study modules will take placeabroad as part of the program – yet anotherway of increasing your global experience.

Through a combination of faculty-supervisedcourse and field work, you will experiencefor yourself how different businesses canoperate from three current and differenteconomic markets.

The content of the modules is influencedby what is happening in the globalbusiness world and the details will beannounced on the website once they areready for publication.

Trust us: these will be the most valuablebusiness trips you’ve taken!

Experiential Learning

During the European module you will gaina deeper understanding of the Europeanmarket and its policies.

The module in Americas will presentyou with the latest development inglobalization and the change to thebalance of power between nations andtheir markets.

For the Asian module you can chooseeither ‘Doing business in India’ or ‘Doingbusiness in China’. Both modules aredesigned to help better understand howbusiness is done in other countries andcultures through a wide variety of lecturesby key faculty from partner universitiesand guest speakers from the industry, aswell as company visits, workshops, andteam work during consultancy projects.

We take learningto the next level

“In every MBA program, students learn the basics in a

classroom setting. We gobeyond the basics. To be

successful internationally,students need to understand

how international marketsshape and direct business

operations across borders, and the best way to gain this

insight is to ask the companiesthemselves. We provide our

students with the opportunityto do just that.”

Prof. dr. Kalun TséProfessor of Corporate Finance

Page 11: Nyenrode International MBA

Sometimes it was about the softskills required to deal withpeople, negotiations and leadingteams; sometimes it was aboutthe hard skillsnecessary foranalyzing and rationalizingcomplex problems and assessingtheir implications. In both cases,I know that I would not be ableto do what I do in the way thatI do it, without the year I spentat Nyenrode.

International MBA at a glance

Nyenrode Business University has created anenvironment in which students and facultyare all dedicated to bridging the gap betweenacademic rigor and daily business practice. The roots of Nyenrode as a recognizeduniversity date back to 1946, when captainsof industry from leading corporations as KLM,Shell, Unilever, Philips and Akzo took theinitiative of starting an educational institutefor young, talented, internationally orientedstudents looking to become entrepreneurialleaders. The for business, by business ethosguarantees that every element of Nyenrode’sresearch, teaching, and entrepreneurialactivities takes into account, and builds upon, the foundation of valuable insights inheritedthrough our shared history. That’s evolution, and that’s what has driven business throughthe centuries and been embodied inNyenrode’s successes for over 60 years.

I believe in Global LeadersI often say leaders understand and valueglobalization. Leaders inspire others to act inthe best interests of shared high-level globalstrategies and goals while at the same timeeffectively decentralizing decision-making, innovationprocesses, and teams. This type of leadership is key to the long-term success of organizations, and I recognize andcelebrate that Nyenrode focuses on developing the relevantskills in its International MBA program.
