Ocean County Calendar of Events
The adventurous spirit of OCAG never seems more palpable than during the onset of Autumn. I always feel that autumn is a gift to artists with a bountiful subject matter to paint.. Vivid orange and red leaves cloak the town’s pavements, and a crisp breeze makes everyone hold a little tighter. This vibrant energy carried over into the beginning of our Fall Classes which are in full swing. As our building gets its final coat of paint on the north side, I must thank our contractors Extra Mile Custom LLC and Schuff Builders who share our goal in sustaining the building and making the repairs and paint last. It can not go unmentioned that we have had some significant community businesses make major donations to our project. Together with paint discounts from Riccardi Brothers and Sherwin Williams, Allied Building Company made a large donation of supplies and will continue to discount our supply needs as the project proceeds. Please consider patronizing these businesses who have been generous to the renovation.“My favorite color is October” Unknown

Gallery II Print Club- Our History“In 2008, we were fortunate to have
had a very talented and world renowned Printmaker, the late Alix Lorance of Seattle, Wa., come to the Ocean County Artists Guild to demonstrate the technique of reduction printing. Richard Kushinsky and Leslie Overchka were inspired by Ms. Lorance and her methods. Soon afterward Richard organized a printmaking group which met at the Guild once a week. He formed the group with Arlette Malivernier and Jim Miele. Leslie joined them a few
months later. Printmaking has become an integral part of the Ocean County Artists Guild. As In the days of old, our artisans come together to discuss their techniques, their ideas and to fuel the flame of inspiration crucial to creating art. Today, our ten member group is dedicated to our work and to promoting this important medium. We have had successful shows at the Ocean County Artists Guild, the Monmouth Museum and the Ocean County College. Our printmakers have won awards from the Guild, the New Jersey Senior County and State Shows, and the Audubon Artists, Inc. We are proud of our continuing progress and are pleased to present another dynamic exhibit.”

Gallery I “The Art of Stig Vederso”Born in Copenhagen, Denmark and a resident of Toms River, Stig Vederso is not only a fine painter of landscapes but also scratch builds miniature seascape dioramas. Having travelled here and there, Stig draws inspirations from the places he’s been, and his artwork has the ability to transport you to beautiful landscapes, across the globe. As a descendant of Vikings, his art is also inspired from his time spent near the sea, so it’s no wonder that Stig is a natural shipbuilder and nautical enthusiast. His three-dimensional marine inspired works of art set inside little treasure boxes or hollowed books are a real “must see”. Evelyn Vederso

Harry Bower | Process versus Product The creative making process will be illustrated through discussion, examples and
hands on activities. I’ve been working in the “Fiber Arts and Book Constructions” genres for over forty + years, while incorporating traditional techniques with untraditional materials. Finding my voice in the art world through the “creative making process”, which I’ve discovered taking workshops, giving workshops and travel. I keep “...pushing myself, beyond that place, I have settled comfortably.” Participants will make a series of books, which will illustrate this transformation.Among Harry’s many accomplishments are teaching for about 30 years K-12 in
Toms River Regional Schools, Animal Architect, Curator for Peto, and being an active NJ Artist. Quotes from two Guild Members who are themselves Instructors at the Guild and
have taken Harry’s class.
This program is made possible in part by a grant administered by the Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission from funds granted by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

“Harry’s class was very enjoyable! He taught us how to construct a book using chip board for a base and then how to finish it off by using one of several bindings. This class made me look further into bookmaking as an art!!” Francine Van Ostrand - Guild Member/Instructor
“Harry has taught a variety of bookmaking techniques from the most basic to the more intricate. We learned how to create a variety of bindings, an accordion book and a carousel book. We also learned how to decorate papers incorporated into the book forms. He is a very inspiring and humorous teacher with an in-depth knowledge of this art form.” Tamara Woronczuk - Guild Member/Instructor
