Beringer ClassicsWHITE ZINFANDEL

VINEYARDSThe coordination between viticulture and winemaking teams is essential when choosing fruit, to achieve the optimum level of avor and balance in the wine. The vineyards selected for the Beringer Classics wines are bathed in warm sunshine the majority of the day, to yield the most ripe, sun-kissed fruit avors in the grapes.

WINEMAKING NOTESWinemaking begins in the vineyard and often peaks with the harvest of the grapes that have been carefully tended all year long. Grapes for the Beringer Classics White Zinfandel were picked at the peak of maturity and brought into the winery for gentle crushing. By keeping the juice in contact with the grapes’ red skins for approximately three hours, a light blush color was retained. Beringer’s winemakers then used slow, cool fermentations to preserve the vibrant, fresh strawberry, honeydew, and citrus aromas and avors.

TASTING NOTESIn making Beringer’s White Zinfandel, the focus is to highlight the fresh red berry, citrus and melon aromas and avors, and round them out with subtle hints of nutmeg and clove. The wine has a youthful exuberance that is enjoyable as a sipper on its own, or with a variety of dishes.

LA TRADIZIONE (THE TRADITION)In the 12th century Castello di Gabbiano was constructed in the heart of the

Chianti Classico region, just south of Florence. The story has long been told that

the Gabbiano Knight, or Caveliere, protected the Castello di Gabbiano estate from

outside invaders. On the label, the Cavaliere vividly symbolizes the robust charm

and tradition of the Chianti region. Today, this 328-acre estate of vineyards and olive

groves is equipped with a modern fermentation cellar, yet the wines are still crafted in

the rich and ancient Tuscan winemaking tradition by Winemaker Federico Cerelli.

IL VIGNETO (THE VINEYARD)Fruit for the 2013 Promessa was sourced from two districts -- Trentino and Friuli.

These districts are bordered on the north by the Julian Alps and Dolomite mountain

ranges and on the south by the Adriatic Sea. The average altitude for these hillside

vineyards is about 500-650 feet (150-200 meters) above sea level with soil

compositions ranging from rocky sand to dry clay. These soils, along with an ideal

climate, create some of the best growing conditions for cool weather grape varieties

like Pinot Grigio.

The 2013 growing season began with a rather long winter, and cooler temperatures

overall. The threat of rain continued into harvest for many of the northeastern

regions, but for earlier picked varietals such as Pinot Grigio they still delivered

nice quality and quantity.

IL VINO (THE WINE)The grapes were gently pressed immediately after harvest and vinified in stainless

steel tanks for 10-15 days at a controlled temperature between 15 and 17°C (about

59 - 64°F). Soft pressing retained the bright varietal characters of the fruit, and a

cool, slow fermentation with select yeasts gave greater fullness and texture to the

wine. Small amounts of Chardonnay were added to the final blend to further

enhance color and texture.

NOTE D’ENOLIGO (WINEMAKER’S NOTES)The 2013 Promessa is pale straw in color with hints of green and a ripe nose full of

citrus, f loral and tropical fruits. Vibrant and refreshing on the palate, with notes of

green apple and lemon accented by a clean finish.

VINEYARDS

Beringer Founders’ Estate Pinot Noir is from select vineyards throughout

Central California and the North Coast. The vineyards are bathed in

sunshine during the day and cooled by the marine layer in the evening,

ensuring even and steady ripening of the grapes. The Founders’ Estate

Pinot Noir grapes were picked as soon as they exhibited the ideal balance

of acidity and ripe fruit flavors.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Gentle winemaking techniques were used to protect the delicate qualities

of the Pinot Noir grapes in order to preserve the grapes’ lush color and

bright fruit flavors once the grapes were crushed. The majority of the

wine saw three to four months in French oak to highlight the wine’s toasty,

brown spice qualities.

TASTING NOTES

The Beringer Founders’ Estate Pinot Noir is bright ruby in color and

displays ripe currant flavors rounded out by aromas of cedar and spice. This

wine has immediate fruit-forward flavors that balance well with the toasty

smokiness of the oak. It would pair perfectly with a red wine risotto or

grilled salmon.

ORIGINSanta Ana estate, Talagante, Maipo Valley.

VINEYARDSSoils: The soil is of alluvial origin and varies between loam and loamy clay in texture. It is of medium depth, flat and has good drainage and moderate fertility.

Climate: The climate is sub-humid Mediterranean. Winter is gentle with annual rainfall averaging 200 mm, while summer is dryand moderate with cool nights. This ensures theproduction of healthy grapes with a delicate texture and accentuated aroma.

VINIFICATIONReception: The grapes were hand-harvested from 25-year-old vines into 500-kg bins. They were then destemmed and gently crushed. The must was cooled and macerated with the skins prior to fermentation at a temperature of 5º C. for a period of 3 to 5 days.

Fermentation: Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at temperatures which varied between 28ºC and 30ºC for a period of 7 to 10 days. Then the must was macerated with the skinsfor an additional 5 to 10 days. 100 % of the wine was aged in French oak barrels for 12 months and then in the bottle for at least 10 months.

TASTING NOTESThis Cabernet Sauvignon was made with carefully selected grapes from our Santa Ana Estate in the Maipo Valley. It is intense ruby in colour and the nose reveals red fruit, such as raspberries, blackcurrants, ripe cherries and subtle notes of spice and chocolate. The mouth is fresh with notes of menthol and cedar. This is a well-balanced wine with expressive tannins, which contribute complexity and a good balance between the fruit and the oak. This wine pairs well with beef, game, lamb, pork and full-fat cheese.
