Mayor Martin J. Walsh
Dear Friends,
On behalf of the people of Boston, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to First Night First Day 2018. First Night has been a longstanding tradition here in Boston for over 40 years, and it now serves as a model for other New Year’s celebrations all around the world. Every year we welcome thousands of families and individuals, of all ages, in a night of festivities free and open to everyone. I am looking forward to yet another successful and unforgettable First Night celebration this year.
First Night is a wonderful way to showcase Boston’s thriving arts scene. It’s a celebration of our tremendous diversity and culture. And it’s an opportunity for all of us to come together, as one united community, to reflect on the past year and welcome the opportunities that await us in the New Year.
As in past years, the celebration features dozens of live performances, art installations, interactive activities, ice sculptures, the famous First Night procession, and, of course, fireworks. There is something for everyone at First Night, and I encourage you to take advantage of all that this unique celebration has to offer. As Mayor, First Night serves as yet another reason why I am proud to lead this exceptional city.
I want to thank everyone who has contributed to making this night a success, from the sponsors and producers, to the artists and spectators. I hope everyone has a safe and memorable First Night!
Best wishes for a healthy, happy and prosperous 2018.
Sincerely,
Martin J. Walsh Mayor of Boston
