A reminder to everyone who shoots multiple bow types over the course of the year… when logging into

i.Scored for a shoot, please double check what bow type you have been listed as. There is a default set for

each archer, and you may need to change it. This can have significant impact on your rating.

If you think you have made a mistake and logged the incorrect type, please let me know so I can change it for

Archers Diary.

2019 Target Championship

The 2019 Target Championship was held on 27 April, a fine day with light winds. The round shot as

always was a 120-arrow Adelaide round, with all shooting as “open” archers. The event deter-

mines the club champions for the year, with 27

archers shooting the 2019 event.

There were some tight tussles for places, notably in

the male compound event which saw Steven Hann’s

100 rated score of 1150 pip Attila Balla by a mere

five points, with Nick Bentley a further five points

back. Andy Stanford shot well to finish fourth.

In the longbow events Pam and Dean Pettman took

the honours while Sally Lewis’s return to shooting

after a break was rewarded with a win in the female

recurve.

Chris de Mello took out the male recurve, edging

out Matt Holland who shot an excellent score after

returning to archery from a hectic work schedule

building the Pirate Life brewery, while Tod

Greenaklee’s third place confirmed his rapidly rising

status in the sport.

The winners (being the 2019 Club Champions) are

shown below:

Club Championship Shoots From the Tournament Director Chris Drown

HANDICAP SPOON April winner: Mark Sorrell

The Tournament Director is aware of some club members’ concerns that, as all archers shoot in the open category, many have little chance of competing for wins or places. However, the event is also used to determine the club ‘Veteran’s Trophy’ so in effect there are two categories. Concern that this single event should also determine the Club Champion has also been raised. These issues will be discussed at the next meeting of the shooting committee, and any recommendations will be passed on to the club for consideration in accordance with correct procedure.

2019 Indoor Championship

Following a light shower which passed before

shooting, May 12 proved a suitable day weather-wise

for shooting the 2019 Indoor Championship outside

on the target range. Despite alternative calls on an

archer’s time (Mother’s Day and the Mother’s Day

Fun Run) 26 entrants competed.

The morning saw the 60-arrow double Australian 25m Indoor event shot, with the 60-arrow double

Australian 18m Indoor event shot after lunch.

The list of place getters is exten-

sive as the event is broken into

gender, bow type and age division

categories, with the awards pre-

sented at the club’s end of year

presentation, however the best

combined rounds shot on the day

were by Sue Martin and Steve

Henderson (compound), Naomi

Johnson and Chris de Mello

(recurve), and Jill Vardon and

Dean Pettman (longbow).

The many AAC members who helped out making targets, arranging food, setting up the field, organis-

ing Archers Diary and such for both the Target and Indoor Championship shoots are thanked for their

contributions.

Sue Martin stood in for the absent Tourna-

ment Director at the Target Championship,

and with Mellissa Balla’s work commitments

on the “One and All” preventing her from

attending either event, Attila and Chris Balla

are thanked for stepping up and helping ar-

range the excellent lunches.

Max Manuel Memorial WA Star Tournament (Mylor) 19th May

AAC successfully tendered to run certain aspects of the 2019 Max Manuel shoot held at Mylor Oval

(in far from ideal weather). Standard age/bow division 144 arrow WA or AA rounds were shot. A total of 38 archers

shot the event, with a small number of late withdrawals possibly triggered by the negative weather forecast.

The club’s duties included:

• Nominating a coordinator to liaise with the Archery SA Tournament Director

• Receive entries from the Tournament Director and prepare target allocations

• Establish a plan of the shooting area

• Mark out the grounds prior to the start of the event

• Supply printed AA standard 144 arrow scoresheets (on waterproof paper if wet weather forecast)

• Assist in the ground set-up including erecting gazebos and placing table and chairs in the DOS/judges area, erecting

Archery SA banners, erecting the safety bunting around the vehicle track etc

• Assist in packing away all the above at the end of the event.

From a financial perspective, the event was positive for the club, which will receive 305.00 after expenses.

Those who assisted the AAC TD in carrying out the club’s obligations pre-shoot included Glenn Martin, Dean

Pettman, Junior Alexander, and Bruce Lang. The AAC archers who competed in the event worked together to com-

plete the on-the-day tasks. Jeff Nicholl and Sue Martin also offered welcome advice. All are sincerely thanked.

The Tournament Director believes that the financial benefit accruing to AAC by running the event was worth the

effort, and consideration to tendering for future events should be seriously considered.

CLUB RECEIVES GIFT OF HISTORIC BOW

We have received a gift from a lady, Susan Organ, of an old

bow, an Apollo Swift; it’s a metal bow. The historic com-

mittee will consider what to do with it. We will most likely

mount it with its box and accessories

CLUB ROOM EXTENSION CROSSES THE NEXT HURDLE

a. The City of Adelaide staff prepared a report for the Adelaide City Council that was discussed on

Tues 21st May at ‘The Committee’ meeting.

b. Our proposal was accepted. The voting was about 10 for and 1 against.

c. The proposal is for:

i. The extension

ii. The appearance of the concept

iii. That no expression of interest will be advertised for Park 10’s lease

iv. There will be a 15-year lease

d. Our next step is to get it through the ‘Council’ meeting next week

e. Then we will re-engage the architects for the next stage and see if we can get the costs down -

and get a grant.

welcomed by the editor

Responding to the photo of the 2001 Field Shoot in last month’s newsletter, Jeff Nicol suggests that:

‘The two boys in between Simon and Jill are Neville Turnbull’s lads Trent and Alan. It looks like Ken Osborne behind Bob Kirby if he hasn’t already owned up!’

SNIPPET FROM THE HISTORY COMMITTEE

Not so long ago, but boy how things have changed. A photo from the

archives that may bring back memories both happy and sad and may-

be you could put names to a few of our members past and present.

BIGGEST MORNING TEA

The Thursday morning archers enjoyed a superb shared morning tea on 23 May. Donations and sale of sweepstake tickets amounted to 220.00, to be donated to the Cancer Council for cancer research.

Thank you to everyone who brought morning tea

and opened their wallets as well.

Were you ever accused of ‘picking up fag-ends’ when you were a

child?

Well, the art of misunderstanding conversations is alive and

kicking in this club:

A statement about shooting with Tony Loi was overheard, and the

next thing rumours were flying around that Tony Loi was SHOT!!!!
