Zoom, Zoom, Zoom!

I loved seeing so many of our guild mem-bers at our General May meeting. Many

thanks to Julie McCluney for organizing our speaker and to Jennifer Kerr for being our Zoom host.

Block Party is in full swing and when we finally resume our monthly meetings — person to person — we will really have a party with so many blocks to win! Mine are ready and I have seen other members posting their completed blocks on OCQG’s Facebook and Insta-gram. If you haven’t shared your

works yet, please do. We’d love to see your completed projects.

My stack of UFOs and fabric stash remain and I am grateful to have the resources to keep me happy and entertained. I work one or two days on a project and then feel I need a change.

Tired of the black and gold? Well let’s do something from Kaffe to brighten my day. Oh, and liar, liar, pants on fire! I said I would not

start something “new.” Well, I couldn’t resist and started Edyta Sitar’s “Star Upon Stars.” What was I thinking?

Until next time, Sew on and keep cool!

Becky Sproal

tember 14, 2021, with draw-ing of the winner at Septem-ber General Meeting.

The member pack of tickets will be handed out at the next meeting where we can phys-ically meet again. When that

is, only time will tell.

The Opportunity Quilt is bright and cheery and will be needing a “Quilt Mom” to coordinate the quilts outings and some of our members to volunteer to spend some time

to take it out and show it off.

Any help will be “Sew” Appre-ciated.

Spare time to clean your sewing room? The Stay-at-Home Order has allowed many of us to clean up our sewing space and we have found fabrics, dupli-cate patterns and books, and more! What do we do now with all that stuff sorted out and ready for donation?

Our guild will take it! Your generous donations will fill our opportunity baskets. If you can take the extra time and effort, you can bundle up some fat quarter packs for door prizes.

We sort through all of your

treasures, use what we can, and still leave some things for our “Free Table” at future Gen-eral meetings. Also, we are having a Quilters Garage sale, so if you can set your donations aside, bring them to our General Meeting in October. If you are in a rush to get them out of your home, call Patti Pane and work out a pick up/drop off/meeting

place to get your goods to the guild.

We appreciate your sewing treasures!

Becky Sproal

Hopeful – yet still waiting for Quarantine Safe Opening of Vina de Lestonnac Retreat Center.

The latest schedule, at this time, is a “Safe Opening” second week of June. The retreat center will let me know ASAP with updated information and any health guidelines that we will have to follow. When I know, you will know! The Retreat Center staff will have our health, safety and comfort at the center a high priority.

Plan on getting your retreat balance paid in June. Any changes will be taken care of lat-er in June when we have more information from the retreat center and any personal changes.

Thank you for your patience to those of you who have contacted Jeanne and me already.

Please, keep your roommates informed if there are any changes. With prayers and fin-

gers- crossed we will be enjoying time with our guild buddies.

I have taken this time to get everything ready for a fun retreat – Goodie Bags, Door Prizes, my wine, Opportunity Baskets, my credit cards, my LCR fat quarters in Kaffe Fasset (3) and Reds(3), Jelly Roll Bowling Stuff and my pj’s for bowling, Midnight Margaritas, my wine glass, Ice Cream Social sprinkles, (I keep adding to) the Saran Wrap Ball of Treasures and some more fun things.

I will talk with Deb about massages. Ready, Ready, Ready – so Ready!

You can always call, text or email me.

Stay Safe and Stay Healthy.

the maker will tell the story. I love seeing the creativity of our members and have missed this inspiring portion of our past times together.

After seeing our members beautiful works of art let’s visit the workrooms of a few of our members. A virtual quilt studio tour! That will be fun to see and hear how they

work and organize their work-space and perhaps learn a few tips and tricks to implement in our own quilters space.

Though we’d rather meet in person, this is he best we can do for now.

You can join us using your smart phone, smart tablet, or computer.

Please make sure your mem-bership renewal has been paid because only current March 2020 through February 2021 members will receive the Zoom connection infor-mation. The Zoom connection information will be emailed to members the weekend before June 9.

UFO Challenge Is Back!So far we have 15 people participating in the UFO Challenge and they are all busy working on their June submission. Some have even already completed two UFOs. Way to go! The oldest UFO is currently from the 1930s. Wow!

Congratulations to Trudy Teshima for being the first prize winner at our last virtual guild meeting. She won Edyta Sitar’s book “Sew in Love.” At our next meeting I’ll give away three prizes. Two smaller items open to everyone who’s participating and Quiltworx’s Summer Solstice pattern to one of the people who completed their June UFO.

Remember, you can join the UFO Challenge any time. If you’re working on older quilts why not, right? I look forward to seeing you at our next Zoom meeting and truly hope we get to meet together in person soon. Have fun quilt-ing!

Jennifer Kerr Queen of Fun

Jennifer will give away three prizes at the June meeting, with this gorgeous pattern going to someone who com-pleted a UFO.

UFO CHALLENGE __________________________________________________________________________________________________

What is a UFO? ItÕs that partially completed top that you started at a class but havenÕt Þnished. ItÕs a Þnished top that still needs to be quilted. It could even be that quilt that just needs binding and a label, but itÕs been sitting around a while waiting for you to make them. Whatever the case, letÕs dust off those older projects and complete some UFOs. You could even win a prize for doing so!

We want this to be fun and doable for everyone so hereÕs how itÕs going to work. You choose from one to Þve UFOs youÕd like to complete by February 2021. You tell me which month which quilt will be done. A completed UFO is quilted and bound. WeÕd really like to see labels as well, but for this challenge itÕs not necessary. You sign up below and pay a $10 entry fee (no matter how many quilts you submit).

There will be a drawing each month a UFO is due among those who turn them in that month. There will also be a special drawing for a Ògrand prizeÓ for those who complete Þve quilts. Additionally, tickets will be awarded for random drawings throughout our challenge period. Tickets are earned as follows:

• 2 tickets for signing up in April• 1 ticket for signing up any other time • 1 ticket for each UFO submitted (up to 5)• 5 tickets for turning in your UFO on time• 3 tickets for turning in your UFO, but late• 1 ticket if the UFO has a label• 1 ticket if the UFO has a hanging sleeve

• 1 ticket if completed UFO began in 2019-2020• 2 tickets if completed UFO began in 2015-2018• 3 tickets if completed UFO began in 2010-2014• 4 tickets if completed UFO began in 2000-2009• 5 tickets if completed UFO began in 1990-1999• 6 tickets if completed UFO began in 1980-1989• 7 tickets if completed UFO began before 1980
