Mass Intentions

Thank you note— Respect Life Ministry We would like to give thanks to God, to our Pastor, Msgr.

Schwanger, the clergy, the volunteers of the Respect Life

Pregnancy Center, our ministries, and our parishioners, who

participated in our Lenten Mission of prayer, fasting, and

work of love and sacrifice for the protection of the child in

the womb and healing for those hurt by abortion.

My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes,

Happy Easter! Keep on celebrating – just like we did Saturday night the 6th!

God is good so you can be assured that serving Him is never all work and no

play. As you know – or can imagine – our annual Festival that opens our celebration

of the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is a huge project and requires many

hands and lots of planning. We will begin planning next year’s Festival in late

May.

For now, though, we are celebrating the great success of this year’s Festival

and thanking all those who worked to make it happen. Saturday night’s party

was just that. We had food, dancing, and fun for over 400 people! This is the

army of volunteers that make our Festival so successful. This year’s Festival

was bigger and better than ever. After all the bills were paid the Festival

raised $162,000 which is $22,000 more than any other year in its history. This

would not be possible without our 400 brothers and sisters who work so generously

throughout the year in preparation. The raffle alone brought in gross receipts

of $109,000. This was the biggest difference maker in our success and even

so I can see where it can have an even larger impact by getting more of us

involved in selling a few books of tickets to our friends and neighbors. Next

year we will have a 1st prize of $10,000 so again it should be an easy sell!

As you know the financial success of the Festival is what funds the special

projects and upgrades around the parish. The remodeling of the Grotto and of

the Perpetual Adoration Chapel was funded by Festival proceeds. You can

always find someone praying at both of these beautiful places and often there

are more people praying in the Adoration Chapel than could have fit before the

renovation. These monies truly make a difference.

This year we will be using the Festival funds to pay for the renovation of the

Meeting Room and its kitchen and will be renaming it Bishop Fernando Isern

Hall. Bishop Isern has agreed to come home for the dedication. It is so

needed that already we have parish groups meeting there and we are not yet

finished with the renovations. Part of that renovation will also include the

men’s and women’s bathrooms that are part of the parish hall.

Let’s us congratulate and thank again all those who volunteered to make the

Festival such a success. If you would like to join them just let me know. We

can always use the help – and it really is a lot of fun!

Looking Forward to Pentecost?

Confirmation – Sealed With the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The prophet Isaiah gives us a foretaste of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in his proclamation that “a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse” and “the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him; a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord, and his delight shall be the fear of the Lord.” (see Isaiah 11: 1 – 3) Other translations (the Septuagint and the Vulgate) use “piety” in place of the first reference to “fear of the Lord.” This gives us the complete list of the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. At the celebration of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came down upon the apostles and filled them with the very gift of Himself. This deep indwelling of the Holy Spirit enabled and empowered the apostles to move outside their own fear and doubts and embrace the mission given them by Jesus. The minister of Confirmation (usually a bishop, but in some circumstances, a priest) anoints the forehead of the person being confirmed with the sacred Chrism and says,

“Be sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.”

When : Saturday, April 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Where : St. Catherine of Siena Church 9200 SW 107th Avenue

A day-long conference on devotion to the Divine Mercy and its message. The goal is to learn and understand the message of the merciful Jesus to St. Faustina, with emphasis on each of the new forms of devotion to Divine Mercy: the image, the feast, the crown, the 3 p.m. hour, the novena that begins on Good Friday, the living out and propagation of the message, as well as deepening appreciation for the spirituality of St. Faustina, above all her devotion to the Eucharist and Mary and her trust in God.
