Dear Parishioners, Today I will share with you four initiatives that are taking root and offer them for your consideration:. First, through the initiative of a parishioner, we are exploring the idea of a book based on the stories of faith among our parishioners here at Our Lady of the Woods. In my priestly ministry I have encountered many individuals who have shared how the Holy Spirit has guided them in their lives, sometimes in surprising ways. These have taken many forms. We would like to collect and edit these stories of grace. If you would like more information you can contact me at 708-361-4754. We had a good turnout at our meeting following Father Chuck Dahm’s insights into domestic violence. As a result of that meeting a ministry is being formed to educate and assist parishioners with this important issue. The first meeting of this ministry will be on Tuesday, July 10th at 7:00 PM in the Hospitality Room. There are two pilgrimages planned next year for the youth of OLOW. The first is a service trip to the Dominican Republic. The second is a pilgrimage to Italy. I will be leading the first trip and I believe Father Andrew will be the spiritual leader for the second. The trip to the Dominican Republic is sponsored through Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos (NPH). This organization serves orphaned and abandoned children in Latin America and the Caribbean. We will be working with the children of the NPH home and school there. The service pilgrimage will be March 24th through March 31st. It is open to adults and high school students and is scheduled to coincide with the Spring Break of the students from Sandburg and Stagg High Schools. The cost is only $1,100 and this includes airfare. For more information you can contact Christine Collins or myself. I will have more info in next week’s bulletin. Finally, Chris Stefanik is an outstanding Catholic evangelist and speaker. He is coming to the southwest suburbs in October. This effort is called “REBOOT” and I guarantee that it will enliven your faith life and your intimacy with Jesus Christ. This is being sponsored by the pastors of the Catholic parishes in Orland Park and Tinley Park. We have information on our website. In Christ,

Father Mike

“More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.” With this true saying in mind, a new ministry has been initiated in our parish—the Ministry of Praise. At Our Lady of the Woods we have a very involved Pastoral Care Ministry. Ministers of Care bring the Holy Eucharist to those who cannot attend mass. The Bereavement Ministers comfort and assist th e grieving. The Resurrection Choir provides beautiful music at Funeral Mass. One of the many common denominators in these ministries is prayer. Prayer provides, comfort healing and unity with those throughout our community. Prayer is powerful. Each week we pray for many of those who have requested prayers from this community. Often, those who are not able to make it to Church, so metimes feel excluded from active ministry. The Mi nistry of Praise is a way for those who are homebound to become essential members of the parish faith community. We want to help our sick, handicapped, homebound, in-firm and elderly join in a chorus of praise to bring God’s blessing to our parishioners as well as the universal Church. The role of a Minister of Praise is simple. Offer your prayers, works, sufferings, sacrifices and joys as personal gift to God. You will be asked to pray for the special monthly intentions of the parish and the Holy Father. These intentions will be provided by a Minister of Care. Those homebound parishioners who wish to become a Minister of Praise will be commissioned by one of the parish priest or the Pastoral Care Coordinator in their homes. A book of prayers, a cross and certificate will be presented at the visit. If you are sick, handicapped, infirm, elderly or home-bound, you are eligible to join this spiritual ministry. If you wish to become a Minister of Praise, please fill out the form below and either place it in the collection basket or send it to the Ministry of Praise. I wish to join our parish’s Ministry of Praise and offer my prayers, suffering and joys to God for the universal Church and for my parish.
