A Word FromRachelle
Happy New Year!I remember when I was in
elementary school I would look atthe clock and watch as theseconds slowly ticked by. Itseemed like the bell was nevergoing to ring and I was in a horrormovie that kept time frommoving. I was anxious for time tohurry up and also anxious to growup. Now I wish that time wouldslow down and that my birthdaysdidn’t come around so quickly. Idon’t even long for the work weekto go by quickly so the weekendwill get here. I just wanteverything to slow down.
Our world is so busy andchaotic and everyone is always ina rush here or there. We are alwayslooking for more convenient andquick ways to get anything doneso we can do more useless things. We shop online, we eat less so wedon’t have to take as much timeexercising, and we use remotecontrols so we don’t have to getup and turn things on and off. Wehave vacuum cleaners thatvacuum by themselves anddishwashers so we don’t have towash dishes by hand. The list goeson and on.
Of course, many of the thingsthat we have created as a humanrace do make things easier which
enables us to have more qualitytime with our family. Thecomputer is an amazing inventionthat has bolstered ideas andcreativity. In 2013 almost 84% ofhouseholds had a computer ofsome kind. That number isundoubtedly higher now and willcontinue to rise. One thing thatmakes the computer practical andmore usable is having Internetaccess, and wireless Internet access(WiFi) is by far the most popularway to access the Internet.
In December of 2014 BelmontVillage installed WiFi throughoutthe entire building and now youcan access it from anywhere in thebuilding. If you are interested inusing our WiFi, please ask theConcierge for network andpassword information. Also taketime to read about our WiFi onthe sign posted between the GreatRoom and Josephine’s Kitchen. Ihope you all find it very helpful tohave WiFi and that it is just oneconvenience that makes your2015 a great year. Happy surfing!

Circle of Friends
Tree trimming!
December was a month thatnaturally focused on the holidayseason. We learned quite a bitabout the origin of many of thetraditions surrounding thesewonderful holidays. For example, why do we have Christmas trees? How did the tradition of giftgiving originate and why do wehang ornaments? We also learnedabout Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, andthe way in which New Year’s iscelebrated in various countriesaround the world. What a month!
Neighborhood
Fun with Monica!
We did a whole lot ofcelebrating in the Neighborhoodduring the month of December.Between the parties, caroling, andholiday themed craft projects, wesure were busy! Of course, we alsowent on a special evening scenicdrive to see some of the Christmaslights around town. Thanks to thehelp of family members, we alsoenjoyed our first of many movienights in the Town Hall, withpopcorn, soda, and a viewing ofMiracle on 34th St. We definitelyended 2014 with a bang!
Health
Positive ThinkingLast month Dianne Cooper,
our Outside Sales and MarketingCommunity RelationsRepresentative, facilitated ourHealth Education Class. Her topicwas “How Positive Thinking CanImprove Your Health.”
At the end of the class, theresidents were asked threequestions:
What brings you joy in this“season” of your life? What thingsare you learning in this “season”of your life? How is this “season”of your life different than youthought it would be?
Here are some of the answersthat the residents gave during ourdiscussion:
• Moving here was anadventure and each dayafterward has been anadventure. There is so muchto do and so many peoplewho really care about us -staff and other residents. Thepeople on our hallway arereally our neighbors and theylook out for us.
• I feel I can live each day tothe fullest.
• I feel peace. It took me awhile to adjust but now I amvery peaceful about my life.
• I am surrounded by myfamily (with photographs) soeven though they are nothere (they are all over theworld) I can “see” them. They selected Belmont for mebecause they love and careabout me. They did a goodjob.
• I feel protected.• I feel content with my life.• It never occurred to me that I
would ever live in an AssistedLiving community. I figured Iwould always live at home. IfI had stayed at home theonly activity I would havehad would have been goingto church once a week. Therest of the time I would havebeen alone. This is so muchbetter.
• I like to look for the good ineach day.
• I like options of learning newthings and meeting newpeople.
• I feel content with my life.• Some of the staff members
are really good at makingyou forget your troubles.
• There is so much to do here. The activities are plentifuland enjoyable.
• I am glad I live here.
