Brief History of MDM in Odisha

Mid-Day Meal was started in the tribal Blocks of Odisha in 1970.

In 1990-91 the program was being implemented with state resources in combination with international assistance.

On 15th August 1995 Odisha was also covered under National Program of Nutritional Support to Primary Education, when cooked Mid-Day Meal was served to Primary school children of all Govt. & Govt. Aided schools

In compliance to the order of Hon’ble Supreme Court in PUCL case (2001) Mid-Day Meal is being served in all the Primary Schools both Govt. & Govt-Aided from 2004.

Local NGOs, the mothers of the children, SMC can participate in MDM by contributing in

shape of cash or kind.

On the same day the A/c, the quality and functioning of MDM can be audited socially.
