Pope advances Sainthood cause for Bishop Alphonse Gallegos, declared Venerable

Pope Francis advanced the sainthood cause of the late Bishop Al-phonse Gallegos, who served as auxiliary bishop of Sacramento from 1981 until his death in an auto accident near Yuba City in 1991. He was known as the “bishop of the barrio” for his ministry to farmworkers for the poor and marginalized, also known as the lowrider” bishop because of his support for members of local modified-car clubs. He was con-cerned about the poor, un-catechized young people, migrants and people who lacked support. He spent his summer vacations living with farm-workers in the Central Valley. Bishop J. Soto will preside at a Mass of thanksgiving for Venerable Alphonse Gallegos on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 1:30 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Sacramento.

St. Vincent De Paul Society More and more families are living pay check to pay check. How can their hearts not be troubled at times? But Jesus knows their troubles and he provides for them. Thankfully they can turn to us, our St Vincent de Paul group here at St Charles, as well as the generous parish-ioners who help us provide for their needs. As the days get cooler, people welcome a warm meal. Your donations of canned soups, hearty stews, and hot cereal do the trick! We also appreciate your donations of canned fruits and vegetables, bottled juices, peanut butter and jelly. Thank you for your continued generosity and kindness so that those who struggle to provide for their families can know they are not alone. We invite all High School teens to join us for the diocesan celebration of World Youth Day, Friday January 25-27, 2019 in Colfax, CA.
