の立面が自ずと凛々しく立ち現われてきた。玄関の格子戸からミセに入ると、タタキの土間がまっすぐに裏まで延び、ダイドコの框上の板の間とオクの畳が、舞良戸の向こうに望まれる。更にその先には、明るい前栽の緑と風のそよぎが感じられ、建物全体が京町家として懐かしい町家の暮らしと文化の記憶に満ちみちて来る様である。

　After being donated to Kamanza-cho by the Onoya family in 1887 (Meiji 20), this machiya has now, more than a hundred years later, reclaimed its former lively appearance. Of particular interest, under the reconstructed “odare” eave facing Sanjo Street, is the return of the “Onoya” name plate which was so familiar to past residents of Kamanaza-cho this time beautifully rendered in the middle of a pane of frosted glass. So too, is the “mushiko” lattice window re-plastered in a warm Otsu-style yellow hue. Together with shadows of the expansive wooden “koshi” window on the first floor, the contrastive horizontal elements of the façade are strengthened. Following the vestigial reminders in each previously altered section of this building, repairs and restorations gradually transformed “Cho-ie” into a dignified version of its former self.　Entering through the lattice doorway, one sees the tamped earth “tataki” floor extending straight to the back of the property. Beyond the “maira” doors of the central wood-floor room, one can see the back tatami room and the natural light and sense the breezes from the garden beyond. The entire property is a quintessential expression of the Kyo-machiya ethos a graceful architectural rebirth exuding past memories of life and culture.
