Parish Support Online Giving
FROM FATHER PHIL
My Dear Parishioners and Friends,
“Peace be with you.”
I doubt that there is a better
way of greeting you this Easter
than with the words of Jesus,
The Forgiving Victim.
T he meaning of the word victim is: a person who suffers from a destruc-tive or injurious action or agency.” It describes a person as old as crea-tion. We see Jesus as a victim of violence, but He is also the fullest revelation of God. He is the one who leads us into the fullness of truth.
Truth on earth is not, nor can it aspire to be, the whole truth... God is greater than religion. Can I recognize God’s image in someone who is not in my image? Whose lan-guage, faith ideals are different from mine? If I cannot then I have made God in my image instead of allowing him to remake me in his. As Jonathon Sacks says in his book, The Dignity of Difference: How to Avoid the Clash of Civilizations, showing devotion to Jesus, may we, like Him, become victors, not judging, victimizing or demonizing. May the Easter season continue to deepen within us the love stronger than death. A Happy and blessed Easter to you, your families and those you love, Fr. Phil Pastor

H ere are a few thoughts on what my baptism means to me. I guess it means everything, some I understand and some I don't. It is the culmina-tion of a long spiritual journey. I don't know why God made me wait until age 57 to become Catholic but I feel like I have finally found what
I was looking for. It means joining the people of God and eternal life. It means relationship, I can't do it by myself. It means being able to receive the Eucharist and receiving the Holy Spirit. I believe God accepts me where I am. I will try to surrender and let His grace convert me over time.
Eventually, my desires will match His. It is a serious commitment and I am daunt-ed by the responsibility. Please, pray for me. The Church feels like an oasis of sani-ty in a turbulent world. I know it will include suffering. I hope I can carry my cross and stand up for the faith. It means God as top priority in my life, like the pearl of great price, with no other competing idols. And it means I can enjoy the wonderful atmosphere at St. Theresa's, created by Father Phil and the members. Incidentally, it is ironic to me that I will be baptized on a basketball court. Basketball was my first religion. God has a sense of humor.
